Softball Downed by Manhattanville on the Road

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The FDU-Florham softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader against Manhattanville University Tuesday afternoon on the road as the Devils fell 9–8 in Game 1 and 4–1 in Game 2.

DEVILS HIGHLIGHTS (Game 1)
  • Jada Lambright had a perfect day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a walk and adding another RBI, marking her 83rd career RBI.
  • Like Lambright, Grace Capparelli also went 2-for-2, hitting one double and scoring a run for the Devils.
  • Summer Burrell as well, going 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit single in her only plate appearance.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Manhattanville got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning, scoring two runs.
  • The Devils responded in the top of the second with six runs as Hailey Wodecki led off the inning with a single and later scored after consecutive doubles from Grace Capparelli and Abigail Rodriguez
  • Back-to-back singles from Alison Wysocki and Mollie Reece then plated Rodriguez followed by a Valiants' miscue leading to another Devils' run. Following the error, Lambright recorded a sac fly to score Reece and then a wild pitch plated Guilia Olear for FDU's sixth run, who reached on the Manhattanville error.
  • In the fourth, the Devils extended their lead as Burrell led off with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Riley Signor. Wodecki added another run with a single to center field, bringing in Olear.
  • In the sixth, Manhattanville regained the lead with a series of hits, capped by a go-ahead home run from Angelina Cruz, as FDU fell to the Valiants 9–8 in Game 1.
DEVILS HIGHLIGHTS (Game 2)
  • Signor went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
  • Olear went 1-for-2 with one walk.
  • Reece was 1-for-2 with a walk and one run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Manhattanville scored first in Game 2 when Josie O'Leary tripled in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1–0 lead.
  • The Valiants added three more runs in the fourth inning with a series of singles and a triple by Breanna Ochoa.
  • In the sixth, Reece singled and moved to second after Olear drew a walk. Lambright advanced Reece to third on a fielder's choice, and Signor followed with a single to center field to drive in Reece for FDU's first run.
  • Despite a complete-game, eight strikeout effort from Sydney Grifone, the Devils fell 4–1 in Game 2.
