Baseball Falls to Maritime, 22-8

MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham baseball team loses to the Privateers in a non-conference matchup Tuesday afternoon.

Devils Highlights
  • Junior John Rolli had a productive day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.
  • First year Andrew Parisi also had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored.
  • Sophomore Matthew Bond continued his hot streak, going 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, two RBI and one run scored.
  • Rounding out the offense, senior Parker Muratore went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
How It Happened
  • After putting up two scoreless innings to kick off the game, the Devils struck first in the bottom of the second inning. Parisi led the bottom of the frame off with a double down the left field line. He was promptly brought home after an RBI single up the middle off the bat of senior Zach Ganca, giving the team a 1-0 lead.
  • The Privateers would go on to take a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the third inning. The offense immediately leveled the game at 3-3 after Bond delivered a huge two-run home run to right field, driving in junior Peter Longo in the process. This lead was short lived as Maritime would score ten runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 13-3 lead.
  • With a hefty deficit to deal with, the offense would continue to chip away. In the bottom of the fourth inning, junior Jake Knapp led off with a bunt single to give the team life. After another bunt single off the bat of Rolli, Longo delivered a sac fly out to right field, allowing Knapp to score and make the game 13-4.
  • The Devils would add a few more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. After another leadoff double from Parisi, the team strung together two walks and two hit-by-pitches to help cut the deficit. RBI from Muratore and Rolli gave the Privateers a 16-8 lead going into the remainder of the game.

Game Notes
  • Seven players recorded a hit in today's loss, with three players having a multi-hit game.
