MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham baseball team takes two from the Monarchs to win the series Saturday afternoon.

Game One:
Devils Highlights
  • First year Christian Zamrok had a solid Game One, going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, three RBI and two runs scored.
  • Sophomore Matthew Bond continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two RBI and two runs scored.
  • First year Andrew Parisi helped propel the Devils to a Game One victory, going 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and three runs scored.
  • Senior Nick Rizos commanded the strike zone against the Monarchs, throwing a complete game on seven innings while only giving up two runs and striking out five.
How It Happened
  • The team got off to a hot start, immediately scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Started by a leadoff single off the bat of sophomore Xavier Diaz, Bond immediately made his mark on the game with an RBI single to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. The Monarchs would eventually tie things up in the top of the third inning with an RBI single, making the game 1-1.
  • The offense had their first big inning of the game, scoring five runs in the bottom of the third. Four extra base hits highlighted the inning for the Devils, with RBI coming from junior Peter Longo, Bond, Parisi and Zamrok. After the damage had been done, the team had a commanding 6-1 lead and never looked back.
  • After a couple scoreless innings on both sides, the offense struck again in the bottom of the fifth inning. Parisi kicked off the inning with a double to right center, which was directly followed by a hard hit single to left field off the bat of senior Zach Ganca. An RBI double from Zamrok and an RBI groundout from senior Parker Muratore scored the two runners and increased the Devils' lead to 8-1.
  • The final scoring opportunity for the offense came in the bottom of the sixth inning. RBI from Ganca, Zamrok, junior Anthony DiChiara and Muratore gave the Devils a comfortable lead of 12-1. In the top of the seventh, Rizos came on to close out the game and earn him his second win of the year as the Devils cruise to a 12-2 Game One win.

Game Two:
Devils Highlights
  • Sophomore Xavier Diaz had a great Game Two, going 4-for-6 with two RBI, two runs scored and one stolen base.
  • Sophomore Matthew Bond continued his monster weekend, going 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored.
  • First year Christian Zamrok finished off his solid series, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored.
  • Junior Evan Sabo earned his first win of the year, throwing the last two innings of the game and only giving up one run on one hit.
How It Happened
  • After falling into a 2-0 deficit in the top of the first inning, the Devils immediately answered back with a major five run inning. Started by a single off the bat of Diaz, the offense continued to pour on hit after hit until the Devils' lead stood at 5-2. RBI from first year Andrew Parisi, Zamrok and senior Parker Muratore helped propel the Devils into a commanding lead.
  • The bats would come alive once again the bottom of the third inning. The Devils recorded eight runs on eight hits to increase their already comfortable lead to 13-4, which was their largest lead of the game. Diaz, junior Peter Longo, senior Zach Ganca, Zamrok and junior John Rolli all tallied at least one RBI in this explosive inning. First year Alex Hart was first out of the pen and pitched two innings of scoreless baseball to keep the Devils in a comfortable position to win. Unfortunately, the Monarchs would claw their way back into the game in the top of the seventh with a nine-run inning, making the game 13-13.
  •  The Devils would find themselves playing from behind in the bottom of the eighth after the Monarchs scratched another run across to give them a 14-13 lead. This lead did not last long, however, as the Devils surged back with another huge inning. Started by a leadoff hit-by-pitch to junior Tommy Sica, the offense would add five hits to their Game Two tally and bring their grand total up to 22 hits. RBI from Bond, Parisi, Zamrok gave the Devils the edge in the bottom of the frame, highlighted by a massive two out double from Sica that cleared the bases and scored three. Sabo would come on in the ninth to close the door and give the Devils their first conference series win of the year.
