WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The FDU-Florham baseball team loses their first game in a three-game series to the Monarchs in extra innings Friday afternoon.
Devils Highlights
- Junior John Rolli had a phenomenal day at the plate, going 5-for-7 with two doubles, an RBI, two runs scored and one stolen base.
- Sophomore Matthew Bond also had a great day, going 4-for-7 with a double, an RBI, and three runs scored.
- Junior Peter Longo helped lead the offense against the Monarchs, going 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI, two runs scored, four walks and two stolen bases.
- Senior Jake Stollar had a solid performance out of the pen, throwing 4 1/3 scoreless innings while giving up two hits and striking out two.
How It Happened
- The Devils wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the first inning. After a leadoff single by Rolli and a stolen base, a passed ball by the Monarchs allowed him to score and give the team a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, King's would strike back in the bottom of the inning and take a commanding 6-1 lead.
- Over the next two innings, the offense clawed its way back into the game. RBI from senior Parker Muratore, Rolli and junior Tommy Sica cut the deficit down to 6-5 and put the Devils in a position to take the lead in the fourth. Rolli led off the inning again, this time with a double into left center to immediately get into scoring position. After the leadoff double, the Devils put together five consecutive hits and finished the inning with a 10-6 lead. Longo and first year Andrew Parisi each tallied two RBI in the top of the fourth, which kept the Devils' lead for the next two innings.
- After losing the lead in the bottom of the seventh, Bond got the eighth inning started with a double to left center. A passed ball by pitcher Brian Beltre scored Bond from third and the game was knotted at 11-11 going into bottom of the frame. The Monarchs scratched across a run and was immediately answered by a pinch-hitting RBI off the bat of first year Christian Zamrok to tie the game at 12-12, which sent the game into extras.
- The tie was finally broken by the Devils in the top of the 11th. With two outs, Longo kickstarted the offense with a walk on a 3-2 count. Bond came in clutch with a single up the middle on a two-strike count, scoring Longo and giving the team a 13-12 lead. Ultimately, King's would go on to mount a two out rally and end the game with a walk-off single to right field.
Game Notes
- Every single batter who had an at-bat in today's game recorded a hit, with only Bond and Rolli recording a multi-hit game.
- Rolli's five hit performance is the first time since last season that a player recorded five hits in a single game (Rolli – 3/15/2025).
