MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham baseball team got back into the win column with 16-8 win in six innings against the Scarlet Raiders.
Devils Highlights
- Sophomore Xavier Diaz led the offense, going 3-for-3 with a triple, one RBI and three runs scored.
- Junior John Rolli had a good day at the plate as well, going 2-for4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
- First years Noah Fiorillo and Christian Zamrok both went 1-for-2 with a double, while also combining for five RBI and four runs scored.
- Junior Trenon Stanard recorded his first win of the season, throwing 3 1/3 innings out of the pen while striking out four.
How It Happened
- After an error-filled top of the first, the Devils found themselves down 6-0. The offense immediately went to work, starting off walks from senior Nicholas Colbert and junior Tommy Sica. Rolli proceeded to clear the bases with a two-run single to center field, making the game 6-2.
- The team picked up right where they left off, scoring six runs in the bottom of the second. Colbert, Rolli, and Zamrok all brought in one RBI, while Fiorillo cleared the bases on a three-run double to center field to put the Devils in the lead 8-6.
- The pitching staff the kept the game in check, only giving up a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning. This gave the team the chance to pad the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning to really close the door on the Scarlet Raiders. Diaz started the scoring with an RBI triple down the right field line which scored Rolli from first base. Following the triple, RBI from first year Andrew Parisi, Colbert, and Sica gave the team a 16-8 lead going into the sixth inning.
- First year CJ Bates and senior Jake Stollar combined to finish off the game for the Devils. They combined for 1 1/3 innings with no runs allowed and one walk to give the team the win in the top of the sixth.
Game Notes
- Seven players registered one RBI or more, with two of the seven registering three RBI.
- Sophomore Tyler Gaetano, Bates, and Stollar locked down the win for the Devils in the later innings, throwing a combined 2 2/3 innings and recording two strikes on no runs.
