MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham baseball team drop a close game against the Dutchman to start their third conference series of the year Friday afternoon.
Devils Highlights
- Junior Tommy Sica led the offense today against the Dutchman, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
- First year Christian Zamrok also had a solid day at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one RBI.
- Senior Chris Kaponis had a quality start for the Devils, throwing seven innings while giving up two runs and striking out five.
How It Happened
- After falling into a 1-0 deficit, the Devils jumped in front in the bottom of the second inning. After two leadoff walks, junior Jake Knapp move both runners over with a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher. Sica and Zamrok cashed in the two Devils' baserunners to make the game 2-1.
- The Dutchman scored another run off a sacrifice fly to right field, making the game knotted at 2-2. In the top of the sixth inning, Lebanon Valley was knocking on the door to take the lead with their first runner reaching from a leadoff walk. However, sophomore Xavier Diaz made an exceptional catch and throw to senior Ryan Johnston at first base to complete an inning ending double play and keep the game tied at two.
- Kaponis finished his strong outing in the seventh inning, where he got out of a jam to keep the game tied. Unfortunately, the Devils could not complete the comeback and ended up losing the game 3-2 after an RBI single in the eighth put the game away for Lebanon Valley.
Game Notes
- Today's seven inning outing marks the longest outing of the season for Kaponis, beating out his start against TCNJ back on March 7 (6 1/3 innings pitched).
