Pitching Dominates as Baseball Beats USMMA, 2-1

MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham baseball team wins a pitching duel against the Mariners Tuesday afternoon.

Devils Highlights
  • Junior Jake Knapp led the offense today, going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, and one run scored.
  • Junior John Rolli continued to stay hot, going 1-for-4 with one RBI.
  • Senior Parker Muratore also had a solid day, going 1-for-2 with one RBI.
  • First year Brayden Rakov earns his first collegiate win, going two innings while giving up one run and striking out three.
How It Happened
  • The offense wasted no time, getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Following a leadoff walk and stolen base by first year Christian Zamrok, Rolli drove him in with an RBI single to left field to make the game 1-0. The Mariners would strike back with a run of their own following an RBI single in the top of the second inning, tying the game at 1-1.
  • In the bottom of the second, the Devils retake the lead and make the game 2-1. Knapp started the offense with a leadoff double to right center, which was promptly followed by an RBI single off the bat of Muratore. Unfortunately, the Devils were unable to cash in another run after getting Muratore into scoring position with one out.
  • While the offense continued to keep up the intensity, the team's pitching staff dominated the Mariners to help propel the Devils to their tenth win of the season. Junior Evan Sabo was first out of the pen and turned in two scoreless innings while also giving up no hits. Sophomore Jacob Forgatch followed Sabo, throwing two innings of scoreless baseball while giving up no hits and striking out two.
  • To end the game, first year Alex Hart, junior Trenon Stanard, and senior Jake Stollar combined for three lockdown innings, giving up no runs and four hits while striking out four batters. Stollar also earned his third save of the season as the Devils beat USMMA in a hard-fought victory.

Game Notes
  • Seven players recorded a hit in today's game, with Knapp finishing the day with a multi-hit performance.
  • With sophomore Xavier Diaz's single in the bottom of the seventh inning, he extends his hitting streak to five games.
  • All six pitchers for the Devils today combined for nine innings, one run, seven hits, and eight strikeouts.
