Colbert Leads Offense as Baseball Beats Penn State Berks 13-10

MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham baseball team continues their hot streak with a win against Penn State Berks making them 3-0 to start the season.

Devils Highlights
  • Senior Nicholas Colbert had a monster day at the plate, going 5-5 with two doubles, three RBIs, and one stolen base.
  • Senior Ryan Johnston found success against the Nittany Lions, going 3-5 with one RBI and one run scored.
  • Junior Tommy Sica and first year Christian Zamrock each tallied two hits and two runs scored, with Zamrock contributing one RBI as well.
  • First year Alex Hart got his first collegiate appearance and win for the Devils, posting three innings worth of work and only allowing two runs off four hits.
How It Happened
  • Having started the day down by two in the first inning, the Devils immediately answered back with two one run innings. RBIs by junior John Rolli and Colbert evened up the game at the end of the second inning.
  •  After posting a scoreless top of the third inning, the Devils blew open the game with a seven-run inning to take the lead 9-2. First year Noah Fiorillo started the scoring for the inning, hitting a double down the left field line that scored juniors Peter Longo and John Rolli for hist first two RBIs of his collegiate career. Following Fiorillo's double, Zamrock, Sica, and Colbert each contributed an RBI of their own to help fuel the offense.
  • Penn State Berks powered their way back into the game, having posted six runs in the top of the fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, Johnston singled to right field, which scored Colbert to extend the lead to 10-8. First year Joseph Papienuk got his first collegiate appearance, providing a shutdown inning to preserve the two-run lead.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Colbert once again jumpstarts the offense with an RBI single to left field that scored Longo. Passed balls and wild pitches helped the Devils to tack on two more runs to bring the score to 13-8. The Nittany Lions brought the lead down to 13-10 before senior Jake Stollar closed the door in the top of the ninth to earn his first save of the year.
Game Notes
  • This is the first time since 2022 that the Devils have opened up a season 3-0.
  • First years Alex Hart, Joseph Papienuk, and Noah Mednick all recorded their first collegiate appearances, combining for five hits and 4 runs over six innings of work.
