Zamrok Walks it off as Baseball Tops Drew 3-2

MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham baseball team won its second game of the day as Christian Zamrok played hero in the bottom of the ninth of the Devils' second game Saturday afternoon.

Devils Highlights
  • Zamrok went 2-for-3 with two RBI, including the game winning run in the ninth.
  • Senior John Rolli continued his productive day at the plate, going 3-for-4 and scored two of the three runs for the Devils.
  • Senior Parker Muratore and junior Peter Longo each contributed a hit as the duo went, 1-for-3 and 1-for-2, respectively.
  • Junior Eddie Appollina had a strong start against going six shutout innings with seven strikeouts.
How It Happened
  • In the bottom of the second, Zamrok executed a squeeze play to plate Rolli to give FDU a 1-0 lead.
  • After seven innings of shutout baseball from Appollina and sophomore Tyler Gaetano, the Devils struck again in the seventh with an RBI single from Longo to go ahead 2-0.
  • In the top of the eighth, Gaetano ran into trouble as a triple from Drew's Nick Donofrio and a single from Anthony Vallaro plated two runs for the Rangers and knotted the game at 2-2.
  • After a stellar 1-2-3 top of the ninth from sophomore Jacob Forgatch, Rolli led off the bottom of the ninth with a double followed by a ground out from Diaz to advance Rolli to third.
  • Zamrok then roped a single to right field to plate Rolli and give the Devils a 3-2 win.
Game Notes
  • Appollina, Gaetano, and Forgatch all combined for an impressive 13 strikeouts through nine innings, ending the pitching staff's day with 25 total strikeouts in 18 total innings.
  • Since the creation of the battle of Madison Avenue tournament, this is only the second time that the Devils have beat both Drew and Saint Elizabeth (2022).
  • This is only the third time in the past decade where the Devils have won both of their first two games of the season (2022, 2023).
