Men's Hoops Drops Contest to King's at Home

MADISON, N.J. – Despite a 50-point second half, the FDU-Florham men's basketball team fell to King's College 84-80 Saturday afternoon at home.

DEVILS HIGHLIGHTS
  • Chris Smith led all Devils scorers with 19 points on 8-of-13 from the field and added seven rebounds and one block.
  • Jaqwan Washington recorded his first double digit effort of the year as he put up 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting including a 4-for-5 day from beyond the arc.
  • Mac Creek tallied 16 points, going 6-for-13 from the field and 4-for-8 from the three-point line.
  • Micah Moore rounded out FDU's double digit point scorers as the senior finished with 10 points on 4-of-8 from the field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Monarchs opened the afternoon's scoring with a trey from Ben Malley, but Creek answered with consecutive threes of his own to propel the Devils to an early lead.
  • After a triple from Noah Pagan, FDU led the Monarchs 13-9 with 15:06 to play, but 12 straight points from King's gave the Monarchs a 21-13 edge with 11:39 on the clock.
  • With 4:59 remaining in the half, Pagan hit two free throws to get the Devils back within one score at 31-28, but a 16-2 run from the Monarchs put King's ahead 47-30 at the break.
  • By the 11:08 mark in the second half, FDU trailed 63-40, but a 24-8 run from the Devils cut their deficit to just seven points with 2:47 left to play in regulation.
  • With 1:53 left, a Washington trey made it a two-score game at 76-70, but a Monarchs jumper and five straight free throws from King's held the Devils at bay and despite a last second tip-in layup from Smith, the Devils fell to the Monarchs by four, 84-80.
GAME NOTES
  • Saturday's game was Smith's 12th double digit point game of the year.
  • This was just the third time this season the Devils scored 80 or more points in a game.
  • Saturday's game was the third straight game of 13 or less turnovers for FDU.
  • Creek and Washington each hit four threes Saturday, marking the seventh and eighth times a Devils player has tallied four or more threes in a game.
