HOW IT HAPPENED
- King's wasted no time Saturday as the Monarchs scored first on a 54-yard pass from Jaelin Mims to Jayon Hailey with 11:53 left in the first quarter.
- In the second quarter, FDU fell behind 14-0 after a three-play drive led to the Monarchs second score of the game.
- FDU answered just before halftime as the Devils used a drive just over 4:00 long to cut the King's lead in half. Beginning at their own 36-yard line, Sconza and Edwards led the offense down field. A 16-yard Joe Marcello catch and back-to-back 11 and 15-yard rushes from Edwards highlighted the drive with Edwards scoring on the 15-yarder to make it a one-score game, 14-7, headed to the break.
- The third quarter went scoreless for much of its first half, but a 64-yard rushing touchdown from King's Brennan Robinson put the Monarchs up 21-7. Following the touchdown, FDU's final drive of the quarter began promising for the Devils but ended with a fumble recovered by King's as the Monarchs took over at their own 27-yard line.
- Just like the opening quarter, the Monarchs wasted no time in the fourth as King's continued its drive and scored just six seconds into the final quarter to take a 27-7 advantage.
- FDU answered immediately as Terry Jr. scored on a 70-yard pass from Sconza to cut the deficit to 27-14. Then, an FDU drive that lasted 5:39 led to the Devils third score of the game to make it a 27-21 game with 4:49 left in regulation.
- After the 2:00, the Devils began their final drive of the game with 1:56 left. Three Sconza passes put FDU in King's territory, but it was an FDU fumble recovered by the Monarchs that cut short FDU's potential game-winning drive.
