Men's Tennis Captures First ECAC Title with 4-2 Win over Johnson & Wales- Charlotte

Madison, NJ (May 10)- The FDU-Florham Men's Tennis Team (10-8) appeared and hosted the 2025 Division III Men's Tennis Outdoor Championship against Johnson & Wales- Charlotte, and was crowned this year's Champions after a 5 hour match resulting in a 4-2 score.
 
FDU-Florham was eager to get ahead in Doubles #1 with Matthew Emery (Howel, NJ) and Ronald Duval (Old Bridge, NJ) leading the day off a 7-5 victory over the Wildcats. Doubles #2 for the Devils saw a loss as Chase Miller (Freehold, NJ) and Kelvin Liwag (Marlboro, NJ) attempted an effort in the tie breaker, but was given a 7-3 score (7-6 overall). Johnson and Wales secured the Doubles matches point with a 6-2 victory in Doubles #3 over Jaden Andresen (Brandford, Conn.) and Chase Miller (Freehold, NJ).
 
With a 1-0 advantage already, the Wildcats were not backing down without a fight, starting in Singles #1 as Emery clawed his way through three games for the 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win, which evened the score. Duval quickly helped take the lead with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in Singles #2.
 
Singles #3 held a tremendous effort by both teams, especially for Liwag as he pushed the first game into a 7-3 tie break but fell in the third by a 6-2 score after securing the second with a 6-3 result. Weglinski also gave a valiant effort in Singles #4 as he won in three, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
 
The final point securing the championship was found in Singles #5 as Miller defeated his opponent by 6-2, 6-4 scores. Andresen was in the middle of his second game when the final point to clinch the title was scored. He won 6-4 in the first and was up 2-1 in the second.
 
FDU-Florham finished its season with a 10-8 overall record and claimed it's first Division III ECAC Outdoor Championship in program history. Duval was named the championship match MVP.
