Game Recap: Softball |

Centenary is Swept in the Aftermath of Softball's Storm

Madison, NJ (April 9) – In its only non-conference game of the week, the FDU-Florham Devils Softball Team (16-12) brought in the extra brooms to help sweep Centenary (2-15) by a score of 9-0 in 5 innings during game one, and a 5-12 win in game two.

Game 1:

FDU-Florham quickly made due and put up the first run of the game in the first inning. They then looked to the third for their second run of the game as Jada Lambright (Clifton Park, NY) an RBI single, 2-0.

Before the inning ended the Devils were able to add two more runs and even picked the momentum up where it was left off in the fourth inning with an RBI single to left field from Hailey Wodecki (Southampton, Mass.), 5-0.

The sixth run was added in the fourth inning as well, and Bianca DiSanto (Colonia, NJ) ensured the minimum 8-run mercy rule in 5 innings with a 2-run home run to left center field, 9-0.

Collecting her 50th career win from the circle was Erin Sinatra (Colonia, NJ)(10-5) who threw 9 strikeouts on 19 batters.

Game 2:

It was the Cyclones who added a run to the scoreboard first, as they tried to create a storm in the first inning. In the bottom of the inning, a single through the left side tied the game until Centenary added another run to take back the lead in their next at-bat.

A single up the middle from Lambright brought the score back to even, and a single through the left side from DiSanto reclaimed the lead for the Devils.
Still in the third inning, FDU got to work as they added 8 more runs to see the mercy rule in sight, including Lambright's fourth home run of the season, but Centenary closed any hope in the fifth inning after changing the scoreboard to read 11-5.

The Devils secured the win with defense, but Caydence Barton (Sayreville, NJ) topped the game with the 12th run as the ball was sent to right field for a single, 12-5.

Earning her first win was junior Sydney Grifone (Vernon, NJ) (1-1) as she pitched two innings and had no runs against.

FDU-Florham now looks back into the MAC Freedom for their next contest on Saturday, April 12, as they are set to host Misericordia for a 1pm and 3pm doubleheader.
