Madison, NJ (April 8) – The Devils took on John Jay at home during First Responders Appreciation Day. They were able to come up with the win with the score being 17-7 in seven innings played.
Jack Giovenco (Allentown, Pa.) had the best line of the night for the Devils, going 2-5 with five RBIs.
Mark Geist (Middlesex, NJ) also did well, going 2-3 with three RBIs.
Aaron Santos (Bridgewater, NJ) continued to thrive, going 3-5 with two RBIs.
The game started off with a bang for the Devils. Although one run was given up in the top of the first, they quickly responded, scoring six runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Zach Ganca (Merrick, NJ) was walked, and after stealing second, was brought in by a single from Santos. Santos stole both second and third, and
John Rolli (Long Valley, NJ) knocked him in with a single as well.
Xavier Diaz (Wanaque, NJ) walked, and Geist hit a double that scored both Rolli and Diaz.
Matthew Bond (Ridgewood, NJ) scored Geist, and scored himself from a throwing error. At the end of the first inning FDU led 6-0.
John Jay put up three runs in the bottom of the second, but the Devils responded with seven runs of their own. Santos singled up the middle, and was scored when Rolli got on from a throwing error. Diaz singled to put runners on first and third, and Geist scored Rolli on a beautiful bunt for a single. Bond reached base, and
Parker Muratore (Branchburg, NJ) scored Diaz from a throwing error. Giovenco cleared the bases with a triple in right center, and was scored by a single from Santos. At the end of two innings, the Devils held a commanding 13-4 lead.
John Jay scored in the top of the third, but FDU got it right back. After a Geist walk, and stealing second, Bond drove him in to create a 14-5 lead.
After an offensive explosion for the first three innings, things quieted down, as only two runs were scored in the next three, both from John Jay, which made the game 14-7.
FDU finished the game up in the bottom of the seventh. The bases were loaded from a Rolli single, a Diaz walk, and a Geist hit by pitch. Muratore got hit by a pitch which scored Rolli, and Giovenco hit a double, which scored Diaz and Geist. The game was called after that, and FDU won it 17-7 in seven innings.
Drew Seawell (Prince Frederick, Md.) started the game for the Devils and did well, pitching two innings while striking out two batters. The pair from Hillsborough,
Evan Sabo and
Trevor Kobryn, pitched the middle innings and threw for a combined three innings and three strikeouts.
Colby Craig (Chester, NJ) picked up the win for FDU, pitching two innings and didn't allow a run.
FDU-Florham will remain at home and tango with the defending national champions in Misericordia on April 11
th for MAC Freedom action. The first pitch will be at 3:30 PM.
