Softball Splits with Drew in an Effort to Strikeout Cancer

Madison, NJ (April 24 ) – In a non-conference doubleheader in support of Strikeout for Cancer, The Drew Rangers (18-17) hosted the FDU-Florham Devils Softball Team for a chapter in the Madison Avenue Challenge and saw both team take a win back to campus in the series as the Ranger took game one by a 4-1 and the Devils dominated for a 7-3 victory in game two.

Game 1:

With no hits recorded for each team and FDU having a two runners on base, Kylee Berg (Bordentown, NJ) was the second hit of the inning for the Devils, but was the first in the game to bring in a run to allow her team to take the lead.

Despite putting up runs in the third inning, Drew started its offensive scorning momentum with a home run down the left field line, which brought in three runs. The Rangers added their final run just shortly after and was able to close the game in seventh for the 4-1 victory.

Caydence Barton (Sayreville, NJ) (3-3) started in the circle for the Devils and saw 23 batters while throwing out 79 pitches.

Game 2:

Drew carried its momentum from the first game to the second as the Rangers added their first run in the bottom of the first inning. Still finding their footing in the box, FDU-Florham made it to the second inning and was able to bring in all seven of their runs.

With the first and second runs being brought in on a hit by pitch and throwing errors by the Rangers, 4-2, Hailey Wodecki (Southampton, Mass.) recorded the first true RBI with a double down the left field line.

Capping the scoring effort was junior, Abigail Rodriguez (Woodbridge, NJ) as sent out her second home run of the season to left field. Drew roped an RBI triple in the fourth inning to add their final run, 7-3, but was not able to produce more. The victory resulted in the Devils' 20th win of the season and was the first time since 2016 the team has reached the threshold.

Assuming the win in the circle for the Devils was Bianca DiSanto (Colonia, NJ) (2-1) as she gave an effort of 2 strikeouts in 5.1 innings.

FDU-Florham's looks to Saturday, April 26th for its final regular season contest against MAC Freedom Opponent Delaware Valley, for a 1pm and 3pm doubleheader.
