Wilkes-Barre, PA (April 21)- The FDU-Florham Men's Tennis team (8-6) its fifth non-conference win of the 2024-25 season over Wilkes (5-8) by a 5-2 score. Your Devils were able to take two of the Doubles matches and all but two in the Singles portion.
The meeting between the two teams, first being in Doubles as
Matthew Emery (Howell, NJ) and
Ronald Duval (Old Bridge, NJ) set the tone by taking the 6-2 win in Doubles #1.
Kelvin Liwag (Marlboro, NJ) and
Nick Weglinski (Wayne, NJ) kept the match close but lost by a 6-4 score when it was time to announce the winner.
Chase Miller (Freehold, NJ) and
Jaden Andresen (Branford, Conn.) helped secure Doubles #3 after winning 6-4, ultimately helping take the overall point for the Devils' advantage.
Singles #1 went into three sets to decide its winner as Emery kept alive into three sets and won by set scores of 6-4, 3-6, 10-7. Duval quickly made work in Singles #2 as he secured the match with 6-4, 6-4 scores. Taking on the task in Singles #3 was Liwag as he dominated in the first set, 6-1, but was able to close the match with a 6-4 set two victory.
In the back half of the singles matches, Weglinski played Singles #4 and won set one by a 6-2, but had trouble in the last two as he lost in the tie breaker of set two (6
4, 7
7), and collapsed in set three, 1-10. Miller also gave Wilkes a point in Singles #5 as he was served a 6-3, 6-4 loss.
Singles #6 saw Andresen turn the final match around for the Devils, as he took the 6-2, 6-2 win. FDU-Florham ultimately claimed the 5-2 overall win over Wilkes.
FDU-Florham now looks to host Rowan-Gloucester County for its final non-conference match of the season on Wednesday, April 26 at 4pm.
