Madison, NJ (April 22) – The Devils (14-22) saw Stockton come to Madison for FDU's final non-conference home game. Unfortunately, despite a late comeback attempt, they were downed by a score of 11-10.
Zach Ganca (Merrick, NY) had the most productive day at the plate, going 2-5 with three RBIs from a three run home run.
John Rolli (Long Valley) did well too, as he went 3-6 with one RBI and one run scored.
Daniel Cowles (Colts Neck, NJ) continues his hot stretch, going 2-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Stockton put the first few runs up in the game, scoring on in the top of the first from a single, and three in the second from a double and single to make the score 4-0.
FDU took it to within one, scoring three in the bottom of the second.
Parker Muratore (Branchburg, NJ) hit a single, and after
Jack Giovenco (Allentown, Pa.) was hit by a pitch, Ganca hit his second home run in two games, as he crushed one over the right field wall to make the game only 4-3.
Unfortunately, the Ospreys responded with a three-run home run of their own in the top of the third, to expand the lead to 7-3, but FDU took one back in the bottom half of the inning. Rolli and
Nicholas Colbert (Belmar, NJ) hit back-to-back singles to start the inning.
Mark Geist (Middlesex, NJ) walked, and Muratore hit a sacrifice fly to score Rolli, and the game was now 7-4.
Stockton struck again in the top of the fourth with a single and a home run to lead 9-4. That scoreline would remain until the top of the sixth, where the Devils pounced for another three runs. Giovenco was hit by another pitch to start it off, and after Ganca and Cowles walked to load the bases, Rolli singled to bring him Giovenco. Rolli was hit by a pitch to send Ganca home, and Geist walked walked to punch in Cowles, and all of a sudden, FDU was back in it, only trailing 9-7.
The Ospreys added two more runs in the top of the seventh from a single and an bizarre catch and carry to make it 11-7, and that's how the score remained until the bottom of the ninth, where FDU looked to pull off a comeback.
The bottom of the ninth kicked off with Giovenco getting his third hit by pitch and taking first.
Ryan Johnston (Garden City, NY) singled, and advanced to second on the throw to third. Cowles then punched an RBI single down the middle scoring both of them.
Tyler Gaetano (Staten Island, NY) pinch ran for Cowles and scored from a Colbert single down to middle to make the game 11-10. Unfortunately that was the last of the runs FDU put up, and Stockton were able to win 11-10.
Drew Seawell (Prince Frederick, Md.) started the game for FDU, and threw for 1.2 innings with two strikeouts.
Evan Sabo (Hillsborough, NJ),
Trenon Stanard (Millington, NJ), and
Christian Weippert (Long Valley, NJ) pitched the middle innings out the bullpen.
Colby Craig (Chester, NJ) pitched the final three innings, and pitched three strikeouts while not allowing a run. This appearance from Craig also broke a FDU Devils program record for the most appearances on the mound in FDU-Florham baseball history.
