Madison, NJ (April 16) – Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) led the FDU Women's Lacrosse team in scoring 6 goals against DeSales. The Devils defeated the King's Monarchs 21-14!
Following Ashton in scoring was Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) and Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) as they each earned 5 FDU goals. Maya Henri (Staten Island) scored 3 goals while Kristen Melon (South Hampton, NJ) and Abigail Collins (Parsippany, NJ) each earned 1. In goal for the Devils was Alison Kozik (Ellington, CT), who saved 16 of the 16 shots faced.
During the first quarter, FDU took an early 3-0 lead against King's with Devils goals from Zappia and Medina. The Monarchs got on the board at the 8:40 minute mark and evened the score 3-3 to end the quarter.
In the second quarter, the Monarchs took the lead for the first time of gameplay. As King's was ahead by 2-points, the Devils responded by putting up 3 more goals, regaining the lead. Collins, Ashton, and Henri brought FDU out of their deficit as they are now leading 6-5 with 9:43 remaining before the half. King's evened the score once again, 6-6 but Medina earned her second goal of the match, followed by Zappia and Ashton which grew the gap to 9-6 with 3:04 on the clock. Ashton landed FDU their final goal of the quarter with 26 seconds remaining, taking the score to 10-7 entering the third quarter.
The Devils and Monarchs went goal for goal in the early minutes of the third quarter. FDU goals from Henri, Ashton, and Medina brought the score to 13-10, as the Devils maintained a 3-point lead over the Monarchs. King's was able to catch up to FDU and brought the score within a 1-point difference at the 3:48 time stamp. Zappia earned her second Devils goal of the match, helping FDU finish with a 2-point lead going into the fourth quarter, 16-14.
FDU increased their gap to a 7-point lead during the fourth quarter as the Monarchs went scoreless. Zappia, Medina, Mellon, and Ashton helped the Devils secure their first conference win of the season. FDU finished the game with a 21-14 score over the King's Monarchs.
As a team, FDU-Florham took 43 shots, 18 ground balls, and 22 draw controls.
DeSales totaled 36 shots, 21 ground balls, and 17 draw controls.
