Wilkes-Barre, PA (April 16)- The FDU-Florham Men's Tennis team (7-4, 3-0 MAC Freedom) took to its first MAC Freedom match of the week at King's (4-9, 1-2 MAC Freedom) and was able to take the Monarch's crown and the win by a 6-1 score.
The meeting between the two teams, first being in the Doubles portion as
Matthew Emery (Howell, NJ) and
Ronald Duval (Old Bridge, NJ) set the tone by taking the 6-1 win in Doubles #1. Securing the Doubles #2 point was
Kelvin Liwag (Marlboro, NJ) and
Nick Weglinski (Wayne, NJ), who won by a 6-4 score.
Chase Miller (Freehold, NJ) and
Jaden Andresen (Branford, Conn.) followed in the path of their teammates and helped secure Doubles #3 after an effort in a 7-5 match, ultimately taking the overall point for the team.
Singles #1 Emery quickly secured the point for FDU-Florham as he won by 6-1, 6-4 in his sets. The Monarch's lone point was taken in Singles #2 as Duval lost his match by 6-0, 6-1 scores. Taking on the task in Singles #3 was Liwag as he closed the first set, 6-3, and secured the second set for the point, 6-3.
In the back half of the singles matches, Weglinski played Singles #4 and saw a 6-2, 7-6 score with a 3-0 tiebreaker. Miller claimed his point Singles #5 with a 6-0, 6-1 score, and Andresen did the same as he won Singles #6, 6-3, 6-0.
FDU-Florham will have a quick turnaround as they are set to host Lebanon Valley on Thursday, April 11, for a 3:30 pm MAC Freedom match-up.
