Madison, NJ (April 9) – Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) led the FDU Women's Lacrosse team in scoring 5 goals against DeSales. Unfortunately, the Devils fell 19-9 to the Bulldogs.
Following Ashton in scoring was Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) as she earned 3 FDU goals while Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) scored 1. In goal for the Devils was Alison Kozik (Ellington, CT), who saved 8 of the 38 shots faced.
During the first quarter, DeSales earned an early 1-0 lead at the 13:53 minute mark. The Devils responded by putting up their first goal on the board, which came from FDU score Medina. FDU gained the lead as Ashton put up her first goal of the game at the 10:30 timestamp, taking the score to 2-1. The Bulldogs and Devils went point for point, as another Devils goal came from Ashton at the 7:00 minute mark. The Bulldogs were able to finish the quarter with a 4-3 lead against the Devils.
In the second quarter, the Bulldogs extended their lead to 7-3 with 9:39 remaining until halftime. Ashton put another Devils goal up, but DeSales continued to widen the gap. The last Devils goal before the half was awarded to Zappia, which brought the score 10-5 Bulldogs lead.
In the third quarter, Medina and Ashton continued to be the primary Devils scorers, as their goals took them within a 3-point comeback against the Bulldogs. DeSales maintained their lead as they scored 3 goals to finish the third quarter with a score of 13-7.
The Bulldogs continued their offensive pressure and earned an early goal during the fourth quarter at the 12:19 time stamp. Ashton then scored for the Devils, taking the score to a 7-point difference at the 10:32 minute mark. As the Bulldogs continued to score, Medina earned the final FDU goal off of a free position attempt, which brought the score to 16-9 with 2:15 remaining. DeSales secured their victory and finished the game with a 10-point lead against the Devils 19-9.
As a team, FDU-Florham took 30 shots, 18 ground balls, and 18 draw controls.
DeSales totaled 38 shots on goal, 19 ground balls, and 12 draw controls.
