Softball Drops Doubleheader at Kean

Union, NJ (March 4) – The FDU-Florham Softball Team faced non-conference Kean in a Tuesday doubleheader and saw hard-fought loss in game one by a 2-1 score, but dropped game two by an 11-3 score in six innings.

Game 1:

The first inning between the Cougars and Devils stood still as neither team made the connection for a hit. The next three offensive outs for the Devils resulted in an RBI single from Mollie Reece (Woodlyn, PA) to put FDU's lone run of the game on the scoreboard.

Two innings of not a single batter crossing home plate for either team, and then Kean took the leap and sent two around to take the 2-1 lead in the fifth inning and eventually close the game out in the top of the seventh.

The Devils saw Erin Sinatra (Colonia, NJ) (1-1) in the circle for the entire duration and collected 6 strikeouts on 27 batters faced. She allowed six hits but kept the ball in control for no wild pitches.

Game 2:

FDU-Florham took one out and then sent the ball over the center field fence for a home run off the bat of Jada Lambright (Clifton Park, NY). They continued game two as a hot start as another run was brought in on a wild pitch and inaccurate throw, 3-0.

Kean answered directly after in the first inning and continue to knock as they tied the game at 3-3 as their first run in the fifth inning, and ended with and additional 11 to call the game in the sixth inning, 11-3.

Making her season debut was Kelly Cornog (Newtown Square, PA) (0-1) as she was in the circle for 1.1 innings and recorded two strikeouts but was given the loss.

FDU-Florham will look to the warmer weather of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for its next game(s). The team will look to play a series of 10 games in the Fastpitch Dreams Classic, with the United States Coast Guard Academy being the first game on Sunday, March 9 at 3pm.
