Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Push Past Ramapo in a Close Fourth Quarter, 16-14

Madison, NJ (March 29) – Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) and Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) led the FDU Women's Lacrosse team in scoring 5 goals each against Ramapo in their final match before conference play begins. In a late fourth quarter effort from FDU, the Devils defeated the Roadrunners 16-14! 

Following Ashton and Medina in scoring Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) and Maya Henri (Staten Island, NY) each earned the Devils 2 points. Cynthis DiNapoli (Brooklyn, NY) and Abigail Collins (Parsippany, NJ) collected 1 goal each. In goal for the Devils was Alison Kozik (Ellington, CT), who saved 14 of the 21 shots faced. 

In the first few minutes of play, the Ramapo Roadrunners got off 2 shots, taking an early 2-0 lead. The Devils got on the board at the 8:52 time stamp with a goal coming from Ashton, but the Roadrunners answered fast earning their third goal at the 8:11 minute mark. FDU scorers Medina and Henri were able to help even the score to 3-3 with 3:08 remaining in the first quarter, but Ramapo ended the quarter with a 1-point lead. 

During the second quarter, Herni earned the Devils a fourth goal within the first minute. The Roadrunners then put up 3 goals to take the score to 7-4 at the 9:17 time stamp. FDU offensive worked to close the gap, scorers Ashton and Medina posted a collective 3 points, but Ramapo continued to score up until the final minutes as the Devils were down 9-7 at the half.  

Within the first minutes of the third quarter, Medina and DiNapoli evened the score to 9-9. The Devils and Roadrunners went point for point during the quarter, with FDU goals coming from Zappia and Collins. The score reached an even 11-11 before the final 20 seconds as the Roadrunners took the score to 12-11 going into the final quarter. 

In the fourth quarter, FDU scorer Ashton earned the Devils their twelfth goal at the 14:49 time stamp, assisted by Zappia. Ramapo answered by taking the lead, 13-12, but it did not last as Ashton scored her 5th goal with 10:46 on the clock. The Devils took the lead as Medina scored at the 9:13 minute mark, growing the difference to a 2-point game. The Roadrunners fought to stay in the game as they evened the 14-14 score. With 3:36 remaining back-to-back goals from Zappia and Medina won the Devils the game.  

 
As a team, FDU-Florham took 36 shots, 20 ground balls, and 20 draw controls. 
 
Ramapo totaled 29 shots on goal, 21 ground balls, and 12 draw controls.
