Baseball Drops Both Games To Stevens, 3-0 and 14-4

Madison, NJ (March 29) – The FDU-Florham baseball team (8-15) (2-7 MAC Freedom) traveled to Hoboken to close out the series against Stevens in a doubleheader. Sadly, they fell in both games, 3-0 and 14-4.

Daniel Cowles (Colts Neck, NJ) crushed a two-run home run in the second game of the doubleheader. Parker Muratore (Branchburg, NJ) went 1-3 from a single. John Rolli (Long Valley, NJ) knocked in an RBI.

Game One
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third, when Stevens score their first run off an RBI triple. They put two more runs through in the bottom of the sixth off a home run. FDU were unable to put up a run in the game, and Stevens won game one by a score of 3-0.

Chris Kaponis (Burlington Twp., NJ) started the match for the Devils, and had a decent outing, going 5.1 innings with three earned runs, and six strikeouts. Jake Stollar (Flemington, NJ) pitched the remaining 0.2 innings of the game.

Game Two
Game two saw early action from the Devils, as they put two runs up in the top of the first. Aaron Santos (Bridgewater, NJ) got on from a fielders choice, and Cowles belted a two run home run out to right field to make the score 2-0 FDU.

Unfortunately, the Ducks offense took off from there, and scored 12 straight runs, with two coming from the bottom of the second from a home run and a single, two in the fourth from a double and fielders choice, three in the fifth from two singles, and five in the sixth from a triple, single, and two walks.

FDU put up two more runs in the top of the seventh. Zach Ganca (Merrick, NJ), Jack Giovenco (Allentown, Pa.), and Santos all reached base, and Cowles brough Ganca home with a walk. Rolli hit a sacrifice fly, and score became 12-4.

Stevens scored two more runs in the bottom of the eighth from a single and a walk. The game was called after the final run scored, and Stevens won the last game in the series 14-4 to complete the sweep.

Liam Stemmler (Bayport, NJ) started game two, and pitched 1.1 innings. Tyler Gaetano (Staten Island, NY), Jacob Forgatch (Parsippany, NJ), Christian Weippert (Long Valley, NJ), Drew Seawell (Prince Frederick, NJ), Colby Craig (Chester, NJ), and Trevor Kobryn (Hillsborough, NJ) all pitched out the bullpen for FDU.

FDU will hope to rebound against St. Joesph's – Brooklyn on April 1st at home. First pitch will be at 3:30 PM.
