Madison, NJ (April 1) – The Devils looked to rebound against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, and did just that, winning 13-3 in seven innings.
Aaron Santos (Bridgewater, NJ) went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, including notching his 99
th and 100
th career hits.
Parker Muratore (Branchburg, NJ) hit 1 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Jack Giovenco (Allentown, Pa.) inched closer to his 100
th hit as a Devil, as he went 1-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
St. Joseph's-Brooklyn actually got on the board first, scoring two runs in the top of the first from an RBI single. From then on it was all Devils though, as they scored 13 straight runs.
Giovenco kicked it off with a hit by pitch for FDU, and was moved to third by a sacrifice fly from
Zach Ganca (Merrick, NJ). Santos then punched Giovenco in with an RBI single.
Daniel Cowles (Colts Neck, NJ),
John Rolli (Long Valley, NJ),
Xavier Diaz (Wanaque, NJ),
Peter Longo (Cherry Hill, NJ), and Muratore all either walked or were hit by pitches, and FDU led 4-2 after one inning played.
The Devils kept it up in the bottom of the second. Ganca, Santos, and Cowles all walked before Rolli brought Ganca home with a single through the right side. Longo hit a single through the left side to score Santos, and
Tommy Sica (Wyckoff, NJ) was hit by a pitch to score Cowles. A Muratore walk and a Giovenco single scored Rolli and Longo, and after Ganca walked to score Sica, Santos punched an RBI single to the shortstop to secure his 100
th career hit as a college baseball player. When the inning was completed, FDU led by a commanding 11-2.
FDU wasn't done however, as they put two more runs up in the third inning. Diaz and Sica both hit singles, and Muratore hit another single to drive in Diaz. A Giovenco double scored Muratore, and FDU led 13-2 after three.
The game quieted down from there, and although the Bears put one more run up in the top of the sixth from a walk, the game was called in the seventh inning, and FDU won 13-3.
Tyler Gaetano (Staten Island, NY) started the game for the Devils, and went two innings with two strikeouts.
Alex DeSimone (Long Valley, NJ) got the win, as he gave up no runs, and all three of his batters to strikeout in his inning pitched.
Trenon Stanard (Millington, NJ),
Jack Kopera (Jefferson Twp.),
Trevor Kobryn (Hillsborough, NJ),
Colby Craig (Chester, NJ) and
Evan Sabo (Hillsborough, NJ) all pitched out of the bullpen and did very well.
FDU-Florham will continue conference play as they will travel to Center Valley, Pa., as they take on DeSales. First pitch will be at 3:30 PM.
