Stevens Sweeps Softball Out of the Pond in MAC Freedom Action

Madison, NJ (March 29) – In MAC Freedom Action, the FDU-Florham Softball Team (12-10, 1-3 MAC Freedom) hosted the Stevens Ducks (11-13, 4-2 MAC Freedom) and found themselves in the deep end as the Devils were swept by a 6-1 score in games one, and a 9-1 mercy rule in game two.

Game 1:

Stevens jumped right in as they added to their side of the scoreboard in the first inning with 3 runs. FDU-Florham answered in the bottom of the inning as Jada Lambright (Clifton Park, NJ) put up the Devils' only run of the game with her third home run of the season.

The Ducks were unable to add a run in every inning as they added their 4, 5, 6 runs in each inning to end the game in the seventh by a 6-1 score.

Erin Sinatra (Colonia, NJ)(7-4) stood in the circle for all seven innings, trying her best to respark the Devils with four strikeouts.

Game 2:

The second game of the day for both teams followed similarly to the first as Stevens added 6 runs throughout the first five innings before FDU-Florham added their first.

FDU's run in the second game was scored by Giulia Olear (Cranford, NJ) as she stepped on home plate when the attention was on the error at first base.

Stevens closed the remainder of the game in the sixth inning by scoring another 3 runs to enforce the mercy rule, resulting in a 9-1 loss for the Devils.

Caydence Barton (Sayreville, NJ) (3-1) was seen in four innings and threw 63 pitches on 24 batters. Junior Sydney Grifone (Veron, NJ) closed the game for the Devils in the last two innings and recorded 1 strikeout.

FDU-Florham will reset itself for a week in conference play as they face cross-conference opponent Widener of the MAC Commonwealth on Wednesday, April 2. The doubleheader is set for a 3pm and 5pm start.
