Throggs Neck, NY (March 26) – Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) led the FDU Women's Lacrosse team in scoring 4 goals at SUNY Maritime this past Wednesday during their last away match up before conference play begins. After a close 4th quarter comeback for the Devils, FDU dropped to the Privateers, 12-10.
Following Ashton in scoring was Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) and Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) each earning the Devils 2 points. Cynthis DiNapoli (Brooklyn, NY) and Kristen Mellon (Southhampton, NJ) collected 1 goal each. In goal for the Devils was Alison Kozik (Ellington, CT), who saved 18 of the 43 shots faced.
In the first quarter, the Devils were the first to get on the board with a goal at the 10:52 time stamp from Mellon. The Privateers responded to the FDU goal quickly, scoring 2 minutes later at the 8:26 minute mark to even the score 1-1. Maritime collected 2 more goals, ending the quarter with a 3-1 lead.
The Privateers continued their scoring streak, taking it to 5-1 with less than 5 minutes remaining before halftime. At the 3:38 minute mark Zappia earned FDU their second goal of the game, assisted by Medina. A Devils turnover at the 1:07 time stamp allowed Maritime to score a goal with 28 seconds left, bringing the score to 6-2 at the half.
During the third, the Devils scored a third goal coming from Medina assisted by Zappia. FDU pushed to keep Maritime away from scoring, but the Privateers landed 4 more goals to finish out the quarter, 10-3.
The Privateers were at a 7-goal advantage against the Devils going into the final quarter. FDU scores DiNapoli, Medina, and Zappia each put up goals back-to-back, taking the score to a 4-point game, 10-6. With 11:39 remaining, Maritime put up another goal, but FDU responded with 3 consecutive goals from Ashton, making it a 2-point game. Less than 3 minutes remained as the Privateers scored their final goal, and the Devils were back to a 3-point deficit. Ashton put up the final Devil goal at the 1:15 time stamp, ultimately ending the game 12-10 Maritime win.
As a team, FDU-Florham took 33 shots, 17 ground balls, and 17 draw controls.
Mount Saint Mary totaled 43 shots on goal, 28 ground balls, and 9 draw controls.
