Madison, NJ (March 25) – In non-conference action, the FDU-Florham Softball Team visited Montclair State for a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader and was sent back to Madison with two losses consisting of a 2-1 and 10-3 score against the Red Hawks.
Game 1:
The first seven innings of the doubleheader between the Devils and Red Hawks held many hits but few runs for both teams. The Red Hawks had fewer hits with five, but were the first to bring in runs as they collected a 2-run RBI single in the first inning.
The Devils collected seven hits in the game but were only able to see an RBI double to left field come off the bat of
Grace Capparelli (South Plainfield, NJ) in the top of the second inning. The remainder of the game was scoreless, resulting a 2-1 win for the Red Hawks.
Erin Sinatra (Colonia, NJ)(6-3) recorded a season high of 11 strikeouts despite receiving the loss in the circle after six innings and facing 25 batters.
Game 2:
Montclair State got right to work as they added three runs in the first inning along with three hits. FDU-Florham wanted to keep the game close once again after
Hailey Wodecki (Southampton, Mass.) and
Sarah Alves (Springfield, NJ) put out
an RBI.
Wodecki would go ahead in the third inning and add the Devils' final run of the game with a RBI single to right center field. Montclair State added a home run to retake the lead and then proceeded to put up six more to close the game at a 10-3 score.
Making her third appearance in the circle was
Caydence Barton (Sayreville, NJ) (2-1), who was seen for five innings and struck out 2 batters.
FDU-Florham will be home at McManus field for its next three games, starting with a non-conference doubleheader against Saint Elizabeth on Thursday, March 27. The first pitches are scheduled for 3pm and 5pm.
