Madison, NJ (March 25) – The Devils welcomed Baruch to Vincent J. and Lenda F Naimoli Ballpark and took away the victory, winning 10-5.
Peter Longo (Cherry Hill, NJ) had the best day for the Devils, going 3-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Ryan Johnston (Garden City, NY) did well and went 1-3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored.
Aaron Santos (Bridgewater, NJ) climbed closer to the milestone of 100 hits, going 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
FDU got on the board first in the bottom of the first.
Jack Giovenco (Allentown, Pa.) led off the inning with a walk, and after
John Rolli (Long Valley, NJ) walked and Santos singled to load the bases,
Xavier Diaz (Wanaque, NJ) grounded out to score the first run. Johnston hit into a fielder's choice to score Rolli, and FDU led 2-0 after one.
They would continue to stockpile runs in the bottom of the second. Longo kicked it off with a single, and a fielder's choice by
Parker Muratore (Branchburg, NJ) combined with a throwing error sent him to third. Giovenco scored Longo and Muratore on an error, and after a stolen base to third, Santos drove Giovenco in on a single to create a 5-0 lead.
Baruch fought back, though, as they scored two runs in back-to-back innings. The Bearcats scored in the top of the third from two groundouts and scored in the top of the fourth from two singles, making the lead shrink to 5-4.
Johnston got hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the fifth, and after he stole second, Longo knocked him in with a single. Muratore walked, and Giovenco drove home Longo on a double in the right-center gap to make the score 7-4.
The score remained the same until the bottom of the seventh. Muratore singled, and after Rolli walked, Muratore scored on a wild pitch. Santos was then intentionally walked, and Diaz made the pitcher regret it, punching a single down the left field line to score Rolli. Johnston singled to score Santos to make the score 10-5
Baruch put a run up in the top of the eighth, but no more than that, and FDU went on to win the game by a score of 10-5.
Liam Stemmler (Bayport, NY) started the game and pitched one inning, not giving up a hit and earning the win.
Jacob Forgatch (Parsippany, NJ),
Trenon Stanard (Millington, NJ),
Christian Weippert (Long Valley, NJ),
