Newburgh, NY (March 22) – Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) led the FDU Women's Lacrosse team in scoring 4 goals and 2 assists against Mount Saint Mary's. Unfortunately, the Devils fell to the Knights 17-10.
Following Medina was Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) with 3 goals. Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ), Cynthis DiNapoli (Brooklyn, NY), and Abigail Collins (Parsippany, NJ) each scored 1 goal. In goal for the Devils was Alison Kozik (Ellington, CT), who saved 12 of the 35 shots faced.
In the first half, the Devils put up points early with goals from Ashton and Medina, bringing the score to 3-0 at the 11:26 minute mark. The Knights answered the Devils scoring run at the 10:42 time stamp and put their first point up on the board. With five minutes remaining in the quarter, Devils goals from DiNapoli, Medina, and Ashton grew the differential to 6-2. The Knights came within 2 points of the Devils, taking the score to 6-4 to end the first quarter.
During the second quarter, the Knights took the lead for the first time at the 8:41 minute mark with a score of 7-6. The Devils fought to regain their lead but went scoreless for the quarter. Mount Saint Mary went into halftime on top with a score of 8-6.
The Devils opened the third quarter with an early goal from Medina at the 14:21 time stamp but Mount Saint Mary continued to grow the gap between FDU, bringing the score to 11-7 with 7:45 remaining in the quarter. Devils' scorers Medina and Zappia closed out the quarter for FDU, with a score of 12-9 Knights lead.
In the fourth quarter, Collins scored her first goal of the game which took the Devils within 3 points of the lead. The Knights continued to extend their lead, ultimately defeating the Devils 17-10.
As a team, FDU-Florham took 30 shots, 30 ground balls, and 18 draw controls.
Mount Saint Mary totaled 35 shots on goal, 31 ground balls, and 13 draw controls.
