Softball Splits First MAC Freedom Doubleheader with Arcadia

Madison, NJ (March 22) – The FDU-Florham Softball team hosted Arcadia for not only its first MAC Freedom Matchup of the season but also played their home opener against the Knights and pulled through for a 6-4 win in game one, but fell short of a rally in game two and lost by a 7-4 score.

Game 1:

Arcadia was quick to put up runs as they swung and recorded four runs in the second inning. Jada Lambright (Clifton Park, NY) quickly closed the gap with a three-run home run to left field for her second of the season. In the fourth inning, Bianca DiSanto (Colonia, NJ) added the second home run of the game and evened the score to bring the Devils back to life.

Lambright was up to bat again in the sixth inning and once again produced another quality at-bat with an RBI double to center field to bring in the winning run. The sixth and final run of the game was scored on a wild pitch and allowed FDU-Florham to capture their first MAC Freedom win of the season.

Erin Sinatra (Colonia, NJ)(6-2) gave her efforts through all seven innings with four strikeouts on 31 batters and gave up six hits on four runs.

Game 2:

Once again, Arcadia was the first to add a run to the scoreboard but they again were able to add four in the fourth inning. The Devils go things started with a double down the right-field line, crediting Mollie Reece (Woodlyn, PA) with the RBI. Soon after, Kylee Berg (Bordentown, NJ) allowed FDU to be within one run as she brought in 2 RBIs with a single through the right side, 4-3.

Through the seventh inning, the Knights were able to widen the score even more to ensure it was out of reach from the Devils coming back with three runs. In a final effort, Hailey Wodecki (Southampton, Mass.) found a spot in right-center field for one additional RBI but it was not enough as the Devils used their three outs before rallying back in effort of taking the second game, 7-4.

Starting game two was Sydney Grifone (Veron, NJ) (0-1) as she pitched four innings.  Giana Abinanti (Freehold, NJ) threw the final three innings and notched one strikeout.

FDU-Florham will travel to Montclair State on Tuesday, March 25 for the first of two non-conference doubleheaders that week. The first pitches will be thrown at 3pm and 5pm.
