Baseball Swept By Arcadia In Doubleheader, 6-3 and 17-2

Glenside, Pa. (March 22) – The FDU-Florham baseball team (7-12) (2-4 MAC Freedom) traveled to Arcadia to play in a doubleheader to close the series. Unfortunately, FDU lost both games by scores of 6-3 and 17-2.

Jack Giovenco (Allentown, Pa.) was the best hitter for the Devils in the doubleheader, going 2-3 in the two games. Matthew Bond (Ridgewood, NJ) also did well, going 1-3 with a run scored. Aaron Santos (Bridgewater, NJ) went 1-5 with a run scored.

Game One
Arcadia had a handle on it for most of the game, scoring a run in the bottom of the third, and five in the bottom of the fifth from two home runs, an error, and a single.

FDU put up a comeback attempt in the top of the seventh. Giovenco singled, and was advanced to third by a Santos double. Xavier Diaz (Wanaque, NJ) hit a sac fly to score Giovenco, and after John Rolli (Long Valley, NJ) walked, Ryan Johnston (Garden City, NY) grounded out to score a run, and Mark Geist (Middlesex, NJ) singled to bring in Rolli to make the game 6-3. Unfortunately, that's how the game would end, and the Knights won game one 6-3.

Chris Kaponis (Burlington Twp., NJ) started the match for the Devils, and pitched for 4.1 innings and threw three strikeouts. Jack Kopera (Jefferson Twp., NJ) and Christian Weippert (Long Valley, NJ) pitched out of the bullpen for the Devils.

Game Two
Game two was dominated by Arcadia from the jump, as they scored 17 straight runs before FDU got on the board, scoring two in the first, ten in the second, three in the third, and two in the fourth innings.

FDU finally got on the board in the sixth inning. Diaz opened up the inning with single, and after Rolli was hit by a pitch, and both advanced on a wild pitch, Anthony Di Chiara (Massapequa, NY) singled into center field to score Diaz to make the game 17-1.

The Devils put one more run up in the top of the seventh. Bond pitch hit and then doubled, and advanced on a wild pitch to third base, where Tommy Sica (Wyckoff, NJ) grounded out to score Bond to make the game 17-2. The game would end with the same score, and Arcadia completed the sweep against FDU by winning the final game 17-2.

Trevor Kobryn (Hillsborough, NJ) started for the Devils, and went 1.1 innings. Drew Seawell (Prince Frederick, NJ), Trenon Stanard (Millington, NJ), Jake Stollar (Flemington, NJ), Evan Sabo (Hillsborough, NJ), and Jacob Forgatch (Parsippany, NJ) all saw work out of the bullpen for the Devils.

FDU will return home on March 25th to take on Baruch. First pitch will be at 3:30 PM.
