Women's Lacrosse Come Up Short Against Drew, 14-13

Madison, NJ (March 20)Alexis Ashton  (Blairstown, NJ) and Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) led the FDU Women's Lacrosse team in scoring 5 goals each against Drew. Unfortunately, the Devils fell to the Rangers 14-13. 

Following Ashton and Medina was Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) who earned 2 goals and 1 assist, while Maya Henri (Staten Island, NY) scored 1 goal. In goal for the Devils was Alison Kozik (Ellington, CT), who saved 16 of the 33 shots faced. 

The Devils started strong in the first quarter, with two goals each from Ashton and Medina. While the FDU offense put in the work, the Devils' defensive efforts kept the Rangers away from scoring. The first quarter ended with a 4-0 Devils lead. 

In the second quarter, the Rangers quickly responded by putting their first goal on the board at the 14:11 minute mark. The Devils continued their offensive efforts and brought the score to 6-2, with an FDU goal from Henri and Medina. Drew started to catch up to FDU as they earned four goals and tied the game with 7:27 remaining before the half. The Ranger led the game for the first time at the 5:34 time stamp, 7-6. The Devils answered the Rangers by evening the score 7-7 to end the half. 

During the third quarter, the Rangers grew their differential against the Devils, bringing the score to 10-7 at 7:58 minute. FDU scores Zappia, Ashton, and Medina worked to bring the Devils out of the deficit and got the score to a 2-point difference, 12-10 Drew lead, at the end of the quarter. 

In the fourth quarter, Ashton put another goal early on the board for the Devils and Zappia evened the score 12-12 with 5:25 remaining in the game. The Rangers and Devils went point for point, continuing an even score up until the final minute of the game. The score was 13-13 with 43 seconds left when Drew was able to get one final shot off to win the game, 14-13.  

  
As a team, FDU-Florham took 33 shots, 15 ground balls, and 18 draw controls. 
 
Drew totaled 33 shots on goal, 19 ground balls, and 13 draw controls.
