Baseball Loses To Merchant Marine, 15-5

King's Point, NY (March 18) – The FDU-Florham baseball team went to King's Point, NY, to battle Merchant Marine. Unfortunately, they lost by a score of 15-5.

Aaron Santos (Bridgewater, NJ) went 1-3, with a 3 RBI double. Zach Ganca (Merrick, NJ) hit 1-2, with a 2 RBI single. Parker Muratore (Branchburg, NJ) went 1-3 with him scoring one run.

Merchant Marine took the first few runs of the game, scoring five of the them in the bottom of the first inning.

FDU bounced back and got their first two runs in the top of the third inning. Muratore singled, Xavier Diaz (Wanaque, NJ) was hit by a pitch, and Santos was walked to load the bases. Ganca came through in the clutch, punching a two-out single to score Muratore and Diaz and limit the score to a 5-2 Merchant Marine lead.

Unfortunately, the Mariners took off from there and got those two runs right back off a home run and continued to put runs on the board in the fifth and sixth innings, as they put three runs up in the fourth from a three-run double, and three in the fifth from a single and a double, to make the score 13-2.

The Devils struck again in the top of the sixth. Daniel Cowles (Colts Neck, NJ) reached base to start the inning with a walk, and after Mark Geist (Middlesex, NJ) was hit by a pitch and Diaz walked to load the bases, Santos drove in all three of them on a bases-clearing double to shrink the Mariners lead to 13-5.

Merchant Marine responded in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs off a double to increase their lead to 15-5. The score did not change beyond that, and Merchant Marine won 15-5.

Christian Weippert (Long Valley, NJ) started the game for the Devils, throwing one strikeout. Tyler Gaetano (Staten Island, NY), Jake Stollar (Flemington, NJ), Evan Sabo (Hillsborough, NJ), Colby Craig (Chester, NJ), and Trenon Stanard (Millington, NJ) all pitched out for the bullpen for FDU.

FDU-Florham will return to conference play at home against Arcadia on March 21st. First pitch will be at 3:30 PM.
