Hilton Head, SC (March 13) – Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) led the FDU Women's Lacrosse team in scoring 4 goals against Bridgewater State. Unfortunately, the Devils fell to the Bears 18-7.
Following Ashton was Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ), Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ), and Victoria Balderas Velez (Staten Island, NY) each scoring 1 goal. In goal for the Devils was Alison Kozik (Ellington, CT), who saved 7 of the 15 shots faced while Gianna Gitlitz (Sayreville, NJ) earned 3.
Bridgewater State got on the board early in the first quarter and stretched to a 10-0 lead by the 4:38 minute mark. Ashton brought the FDU Devils out of their scoring drought at the 3:25 time stamp but the Bears quickly answered, bringing the score to 11-1 at the end of the first period.
During the second quarter, Bridgewater was able to continue their offensive pressure and grew their lead to 14-1 with 6:01 remaining before the half. FDU pushed to gain possession, but the Devils were only successful in earning a second goal at the 2:47 time stamp which came from Ashton.
The Devils were in a 12-point deficit going into the second half of gameplay. FDU started out the third quarter strong, with Zappia and Ashton putting up two goals within the first five minutes of the period, 14-4. The Bears maintained their lead, but the Devils fought to catch up. Medina and Balderas Velez brought the FDU score higher earning two goals within 3 minutes of each other, ending the third quarter with a score of 15-6.
In the final quarter, FDU tried to fend off the Bears, but Bridgewater took the score to 17-6 with 11:40 left in the game. Ashton landed the Devils one final goal at the 9:17 minute mark, while the Bears solidified their win with one minute remaining, bringing the final score to 18-7.
As a team, FDU-Florham took 21 shots, 10 ground balls, and 11 draw controls.
Bridgewater State totaled 36 shots on goal, 18 ground balls, and 16 draw controls.
