Myrtle Beach, SC (March 14) – The final day of the Fastpitch Dreams Classic for the FDU-Florham Softball Team was one of the best as the Devils saw a 5-4 extra-inning win over Thiel and an 11-2 mercy rule win against Penn State Schuylkill as well as one of its graduate student pitchers,
Erin Sinatra (Colonia, NJ) collecting her 400th career strikeouts. The wins capped the best results of a spring trip in program history (7-1).
Game 1:
Thiel was the first to score as they sent a runner home with a long RBI single to center field. FDU-Florham was able to even the score in the third inning when
Victoria Fantozzi (Hillsborough, NJ) added an RBI single to center field.
Thiel reclaimed their lead in the fourth inning with another three runs. The triple to right field was the last productive at-bat the Tomcats saw.
The Devils came within one run during the fifth inning, 4-3, and closed the gap in the seventh inning with another two runs to tie the game and push it into extra innings.
The defense held strong and the offense opened up as
Grace Capparelli (South Plainfield, NJ) took the sacrifice fly to center field to send the runner home for the 5-4 final score.
Sinatra (4-2)
threw out an unforgettable performance of nine strikeouts to not only help capture the win but her 400
th career strikeout.
Game 2:
Heading directly into their second game of the day and the last game of spring break, the Devils were out to a slow start as Penn State-Schuylkill put up the first and their only two runs of the game.
The first Devil to add a run was
Bianca DiSanto (Colonia, NJ) as she recorded the single down the left field line for the RBI in the fourth inning. FDU-Florham kept the momentum building into the fifth and were able to add 5 runs to take the lead.
The sixth inning held much of the same result as another five runs were added, totaling an 11-2 score and win for the Devils in six innings.
After traveling back to Madison, NJ, FDU-Florham will rest until Wednesday, March 19 when they are scheduled to play at Neumann for a non-conference doubleheader contest starting at 3pm.
