Softball Sees a Penn State Sweep on Day Three of the Fastpitch Dreams Classic

Myrtle Beach, SC (March 13) – Day three of the Fastpitch Dreams Classic held a Penn State sweep for the FDU-Florham Softball Team, as they escaped Harrisburg by a 3-2 score and took its game against Altoona with a 5-2 victory. 
 
Game 1:

The game got out to a slow start for both teams as only one hit was recorded in the first three innings. Penn State Harrisburg recorded the first hit with a with a single to the shortstop.
 
The fourth inning brought much more ideal results as Jada Lambright (Clifton Park, NY) got things started with an RBI double down the left-field line. The Devils added a second run and then ended the inning with Mollie Reece (Woodlyn, PA) singling to the shortstop for the third and final run of the game.
 
Penn State could not go out without swinging for the hope of a win, therefore they started with a triple to right center to start the fifth inning. They then came within one run after a RBI single to center field.
 
The Lions ran out of strikes by the seventh inning and were not able to come from behind for the win, leaving FDU-Florham with a 3-2 victory.
 
Erin Sinatra (Colonia, NJ)(3-2) kept loading on the strikeouts as she recorded 8 on 28 batters faced and 107 pitches thrown.  
 

Game 2:
 
First-year Caydence Barton (Sayreville, NJ) started the game in the circle for the Devils and also started the offensive attack with an RBI single down the right-field line in the second inning.
 
Altoona kept close behind and eventually overtook FDU-Florham with two separate RBI's to center field during the third inning.
 
All went quiet until the sixth inning when Lambright scored off Victoria Fantozzi (Hillsborough, NJ)'s RBI. Moments later, Fantozzi recorded the third run of the game and took the lead for the Devils after scoring on a passed ball.
 
The Devils ensured the win over Altoona when another two runs were added In the seventh inning and the final three outs were recorded after seeing four batters, 5-2.
 
Barton (2-0) collected the win in the circle after performing in six innings with 62 pitches thrown. Recording the save and being seen for the first time behind the strip of rubber was Giana Abinanti (Freehold, NJ) as she contributed a strikeout in the last inning.


The final day for FDU-Florham in the Fastpitch Dreams Classic will occur on Friday, March 14 with back-to-back games starting at 9 am against Thiel and 11 am against Penn State Schuylkill.
