Myrtle Beach, SC (March 12) –In the second day of the Fastpitch Dreams Classic, The FDU-Florham Softball team saw a strong first game as they won in five innings against Dean, 8-0, but lost to Bridgewater State by a 2-0 score.
Game 1:
As the sun began to wake, FDU did the same as they found no offensive rhythm in the first inning. The next time the team was up to bat,
Hailey Wodecki (Southampton, NJ) sent the ball into center field for the first RBI of the game.
The third inning brought two home runs for the Devils. The hit by
Jada Lambright (Clifton Park, NY) got her to second base with the ball going up the middle. She then was able to collect third and then home plate for an inside-the-park homerun (2 RBI).
Riley Signor (Media, PA) then added another homerun over the center field fence, 4-0.
FDU-Florham added another two runs in the fourth inning and
Victoria Fantozzi (Hillsborough, NJ) ensured the 5-inning game with a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in the winning run on third.
Collecting her first win in the circle was
Kelly Cornog (Newtown Square, PA) as she threw 3 strikeouts in 4.0 innings.
Game 2:
Bridgewater State was the first up to bat but was not able to produce a quality at-bat but FDU-Florham was as
Kylee Berg (Bordentown, NJ) singled to shortstop for one of the Devil's three hits.
The rest of FDU's hits came in the third inning and the seventh inning to hopefully bring in a run, but they were unable to as Bridgewater State added two runs in the fifth inning to ensure the game ended in their favor, 2-0.
Erin Sinatra (Colonia, NJ) (2-2) was throwing the ball over the plate in game two over 105 times. She was given the loss but not without recording 6 strikeouts on 29 batters.
FDU-Florham will remain in Myrtle Beach at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic for Day 3 on Thursday, March 13. The Devils will take on Penn State-Harrisburg at 9 AM and Penn State-Altoona at 1 PM.
