Women's Lacrosse Earns First Win of the Season Against Transylvania, 15-12

Hilton Head, SC (March 11) – Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) and Alexis Ashton  (Blairstown, NJ) led the FDU Women's Lacrosse team in scoring 6 goals each against Transylvania and earning the first victory of the season while in Hilton Head, South Carolina 

Following Medina and Ashton, Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) scored 2 goals for the Devils and Kristen Mellon (Southampton, NJ) tallied 1 goal. Alison Kozik (Ellington, CT) earned a win in the cage for FDU, saving 12 of the 38 shots faced. 
 
Charlotte Green led the Pioneers, scoring 4 goals, and goalie Grace Smilek-Edwards saved 5 of the 28 shots taken on goal by the Devils. 

The Devils got on the board within the first minute of gameplay, with goals coming from Ashton and Medina, bringing the score to 2-0 at the 14:02 minute mark. Ashton earned her second goal at the 11:03 time stamp, but Transylvania responded quickly and landed their first which took the score to 3-1 with 10:04 remaining. The Devils continued to stay in the lead with three goals from Zappia and two more for Ashton. The Pioneers followed close behind, but the score at the end of the quarter was 7-4, Devils lead. 

In the second quarter, the first 10 minutes were scoreless for the Devils, but the Pioneers reached only a one-point deficit, 6-7, by the 4:21 time stamp. Medina brought FDU out of their scoring drought at the 2:28 minute mark, helping the Devils maintain their one-point lead. Transylvania fought to catch up, and with less than a minute remaining, they evened the score to 8-8 to end the quarter. 

The Pioneers took the led for the first time during the third quarter, with a score of 11-8 with 11:51 on the clock. Devils' goals from Medina and Mellon kept the score close, but they were still behind 12-10, 5 minutes remaining. Transylvania could not get another shot off for the rest of the quarter, but FDU scorer Medina successfully tied up the game 12-12 going into the final quarter. 

During the fourth quarter, the Devils were the first team to get on the board at the 6:50 time stamp with another goal from Medina, taking the score to 13-12. With the Devils back in the lead, Ashton took widen the gap further, scoring 2 more goals. The Pioneers went scoreless during the final quarter, ultimately giving FDU the 15-12 win.  

 
As a team, FDU-Florham took 38 shots, 11 ground balls, and 18 draw controls. 
 
Transylvania totaled 28 shots on goal, 17 ground balls, and 13 draw controls.
