Baseball Halted by New Paltz, 18-5

Madison, N.J. (February 28) – The FDU-Florham baseball team (1-3) welcomed New Paltz to Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark. Unfortunately, they were halted by them, losing 13-5.

Aaron Santos (Bridgewater, NJ) was the team's best hitter for the game, going 1-3 with a double. Parker Muratore (Branchburg, NJ) went 1-2 with a bunt single. John Rolli (Long Valley, NJ) hit a single and stole a base as well.

The Hawks scored one in the top of the first, but FDU responded right back. The inning was kicked off with Jack Giovenco (Allentown, Pa.) getting on base by a hit by pitch, and Santos advancing him to third with a double. Nicholas Colbert (Belmar, NJ) brought Giovenco home for the only run of the inning for the Devils.

After a scoreless second inning from both sides, New Paltz scored six runs in the top of third. FDU responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two of their own. Ryan Johnston (Garden City, NY) was the first runner to reach base on a walk. Rolli was hit by a pitch to advance the runners, and Zach Ganca (Merrick, NJ) lined a single to load the bases. Peter Longo (Cherry Hill, NJ) hit into a fielders choice which scored Johnston, and after Matthew Bond (Ridgewood, NJ) walked, Muratore also walked to bring in Rolli. After three innings, it was a 7-3 Hawks lead.

New Paltz went on to score 11 straight runs, two in the fifth, five in the sixth, and four in the seventh.

FDU managed to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Dominic Falino (Miller Place, NY) was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Xavier Diaz (Wanaque, NJ) singled to put runners on first and second. After Ganca got hit by a pitch, Jacob Forgatch (Parsippany, NJ) and Muratore walked to bring in two runs.

After a scoreless eighth inning from both sides, the game was called due to darkness, and New Paltz won 18-5.

Eddie Appollina (Annandale, NJ) shouldered the loss in this game, earning four strikeouts in 2.2 innings played. Colby Craig (Chester, NJ) pitched well out of the bullpen today, giving up no earned runs.

FDU-Florham will take on CCNY in a doubleheader on March 1st at home. First pitch of game one will be at 12:00 pm, with the second game starting 30 minutes after the first one finishes.
