Women's Basketball Wins in OT Against St. Joseph's, 74-65

Patchogue, NY – The FDU-Florham Devils women's basketball team defeated the St. Joseph's Golden Eagles, 74-65, in Overtime. 

  
Devils Highlights 

How it Happened 

  • The Devils opened gameplay with a three-pointer from Centeno at the 9:19 minute mark
  • The Golden Eagles responded immediately with a three-pointer, setting the tone for a back-and-fourth scoring battle 
  • With St. Joseph's up by 3 points, 13-10, with 4:42 remaining in the first quarter, a combined 4 points from Clancy brought FDU to a 14-13 lead going into the second quarter
  • FDU maintained their lead in the second quarter with baskets from Kristen Mellon, Alexa Chapman, Clancy, and Julia Vazquez which brought the Devils to a 5-point lead at the 7:00 minute mark 
  • The Golden Eagles fought to regain the lead and did so with 3:14 until the half, 21-20
  • St. Joseph's offense exploded in the third quarter as they kept a steady lead over the Devils 
  • Made FDU baskets from Sullivan and Clancy kept the Devils alive but the Golden Eagles finished the third quarter on top, placing FDU in a 15-point deficit, 47-32 
  • A three-pointer from Walker started the FDU 10-point scoring streak within the first two minutes of the fourth quarter, bringing the score to 58-42 at the 6:22 time stamp 
  • FDU worked to close the gap throughout the fourth, getting within 2-points of the lead with a layup from Clancy with 3:22 on the clock 
  • Tighe scored a three with 17 seconds left in the fourth quarter, with the Golden Eagles still leading by 1-point, 59-58 
  • With 14 seconds remaining, St. Joseph's were up 60-58 but the Golden Eagles fouled Tighe putting her at the line for the opportunity to push the game into OT 
  • Tighe made both free throws, tying up the game 
  • The Devils dominated during OT, as they were up 67-61 at the 1:27 time stamp 
  • A three from Centeno put FDU in a comfortable 9-point lead, 72-63, with 19 seconds remaining
  • Two made free throws from Vazquez completed the game for the Devils as they ended victorious, 74-65 
  • Up Next 
    The Devils will return home on Monday, January 5th to take on Bryn Mawr. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
