Women's Basketball Falls to William Smith, 65-63

MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham Devils women's basketball team hosted William Smith College this evening. The Devils fell to the Herrings in a close game, ending with a score of 65-63. 

  
Devils Highlights 

How it Happened 

  • The Devils got on the board early, at the 9:56 minute mark, with a made jumper from Centeno 

  • FDU and William Smith went basket for basket in the first, reaching an 11-11 tie at the 2:43 time stamp 

  • The Herrings finished the first quarter on top as they led 17-15 

  • The close game continued in the second quarter, but points from Tighe, Centeno, and Walker put FDU in a brief lead of 25-22 with 4:42 seconds remaining until the half 

  • William Smith regained the lead and held onto it for the rest of the second quarter 

  • FDU followed close behind with the largest gap being 39-33, with 11 seconds before halftime 

  • The Devils worked to close the gap, with made baskets from Tighe, Sode, and Christina Sullivan putting FDU within 8 points of taking the lead with 3:14 on the clock 

  • The third quarter ended with a Herrings 10-point lead over the Devils, 57-47 

  • The Devils made a major comeback in the final five minutes of the fourth after trailing by 10 points 

  • Clancy, Sullivan, and Tighe put up baskets for the Devils for a score of 64-57 at the 1:36 minute mark 

  • Made free throws from Clancy brought FDU within 3 points of taking the lead 

  • With 00.21 remaining, Tighe stole the ball from the Herrings and landed a layup to take the score to 64-63 

  • William Smith ended regulation with a made free throw to win the game

The Devils will continue Monday, December 29, to face St. Joseph's Long-Island. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
