Madison, NJ (January 29) - The FDU Men's Basketball team clinches a hard-fought victory over Arcadia, 77-75!
Jaqwan Washington (Bryan, TX) led the Devils, scoring 16 points. Christopher Smith (Florham Park, NJ) followed with 15 points and Carson Woods (Phoenix, AZ.) with 12.
Arcadia took an early lead in the first half, opening gameplay with a 3-pointer. Both the Knights and Devils got on the board early when FDU responded quickly with a jumper made by Adam Ziegler (West Grove, PA). The Devils and Knights continued to go basket for basket, meeting at an even 10-10 13:48 time stamp. The game remained close, with baskets coming from Noah Pagan (Ringwood, NJ), Smith, and Ethan Klueh (Orlando, FL.) which took the score to 24-24 with 4:34 left in the half. The back-and-forth continued until Arcadia managed to extend their lead with another 3-pointer. The first half ended with a slim Knight lead, 34-28.
The Devils and Knights kept a close score at the beginning of the second half, but Arcadia took their lead to 40-33 at the 17:48 minute mark. FDU baskets from Francis Denvir (Holland Township, N.J.), Woods, and Ziegler kept the Devils alive as they took the lead for the first time, 44-42, at the 15:23 time stamp. Arcadia responded to the Devils run and regained the lead to put FDU in an 11-point deficit with less than 9 minutes remaining on the clock. The Devils needed to dominate the next minutes of gameplay in order to close the largest gap of the game. FDU began to sink shots, with baskets from Smith, Denvir, and Washington, along with a 3-pointer from Woods which brought the score to an even 64-64. At the 4:20 minute mark, the Devils were able to take back the lead with a layup from Washington, 66-64. FDU started gaining offensive possession and pushed the Arcadia deficit to 6 points with 3:03 to go. The Knights were not able to come back against the Devils, ultimately allowing the FDU 77-75 victory!
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 47.5 percent (28-59) from the floor, 47.6 percent (10-21) from three-point range, and 64.7 percent (11-17) from the free throw line. They totaled 30 points in the paint, 18 off the bench, and 12 off turnovers.
Arcadia shot 50 percent (29-58) from the floor, 43.5 percent (10-23) from three-point range, and 63.6 percent (7-11) from the free throw line. They totaled 34 points in the paint, 9 off the bench, and 13 off turnovers.
FDU-Florham will continue on the road as they face off against King's (PA) on Wednesday, February 1st. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
