Madison, N.J. (September 5) – The FDU-Florham women's tennis (0-1) opened its 2024 season at home against the Baruch Bearcats (1-0) and suffered an 6-1 defeat in non-conference action.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 1-0 score after doubles. In Doubles #1,
Paula Vanegas (Union City, NJ) and
Rachel Kappelmier (Freehold, NJ) were bested by Maria Calvo and Aishika Yadav, 6-1.
Meliha Bektesevic and
Giavana Caraccioli (Bound Brook, N.J.) fell just short in Doubles #2 to Ava Deguzman and Brianna Augustin by a score of 6-1. In Doubles #3,
Marilu Guzman (Newark, NJ) and
Melanie Perez (Union City, N.J.) were defeated by Maria Rojas and Jacqueline Moreno, 6-1.
Baruch took all but one singles match to complete an 8-1 victory. Deguzman took Singles #1 after 6-0, 6-0 sets by
Kappelmier. In Singles #2,
Vanegas scored a single point, 6-0, 6-1 against Yadav and was handed the loss.
Caraccioli fell to Calvo by a score of 6-1, 6-0 in Singles #3.
Bektesevic was the lone Devil who claimed a victory in today's match, as she won 0-6, 0-6 to Moreno In Singles #4.
Perez accounted for multiple points 6-1, 6-2 but ultimately fell to Rojas in Singles #5. Guzman closed out the match in Singles #6 with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Justine Gardella, in Singles #6.
FDU-Florham looks to bounce back at King's (Pa.) on Sunday, September 8 for a non-conference match.
