Football Seals Homecoming Weekend with a 48-26 Score Over Lebanon Valley

Madison, NJ (September 28)- With their Homecoming weekend occurring, the FDU-Florham Football team (4-0, 3-0 MAC) produced an offensive showing against Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchman (2-2, 2-1 MAC) for a 48-26 final score in Middle Atlantic Conference play. The win marked the team's best season start in program.

Offensively, Ryon Thomas (Mattapoisett, Mass.) overall had one of his best showings yet this season as he amassed an 85.0% pass completion rate while going 17 for 20 through the air, with 204 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also picked up 139 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Kwanir Edwards (Trenton, NJ) helped produce a large number of points for the Devils as he rushed in two touchdowns and notched one receiving touchdown, with a collection of 193 net yards on the ground. Aidan Clowry (Pawling, NY) also added 1 touchdown, for 6 receptions.

Defensively, the Devils saw Matt Heineman (Staten Island, NY) take the charge with six solo tackles and two assists. Tim Miller (Baltimore, Md.) accounted for six tackles and was the only solo sack by the FDU defense on the day, resulting in a loss of nine yards for the Flying Dutchman.

FDU-Florham started at their 22-yard line after receiving the kick-off and began their match up the field and picked up four first downs to bring them to LVC 13 after a short pass Thomas was completed by Anthony Bilotta ( Cedar Grove, NJ). Now in the redzone, the Devils score the first points of the game with Thomas's first of three rushing touchdowns. The extra point kick from Chris Maida (Red Bank, NJ) allowed FDU to finish their first drive with the full 7 points.

Lebanon Valley had their first opportunity to score but failed as they were stopped on downs at the FDU 45 and were forced to punt away.  With great field advantage to start the Devils only needed a 17-yard pass and a 72-yard break away on the ground from Edwards to up the score, 14-0 by the time the ball was returned to the Flying Dutchman.

With the ball back in the Flying Dutchman's possession, the Devil's defense was adamant about giving the ball back to their offense and so stopped Lebanon Valley on the first set of downs. FDU picked up two first downs before seeing a 35-yard town down pass to Clowery, 21-0, before giving the ball back with 54 seconds in the quarter.

Lebanon Valley carried their possession into the next quarter but returned the ball after a pass incompletion attempt field to pick up the first down and were forced to punt away.

With going three for three on drive attempts so far into the game, FDU-Florham kept the momentum and scored for a fourth time to bump up the score 27-0, but after a blocked extra point kick, the Flying Dutchman recovered the ball and flew up the field for their first two points of the game.

Determined to score a touchdown for quality points, Lebanon Valley started at their 33-yard line and worked up the field picking up three first downs before sending their running back up the middle for a 4-yard touchdown and collecting the extra point, 27-9.

As the momentum started to build on the Flying Dutchman offense, the defense started to build on top as LVC was able to force the Devils to punt away for the first time in the game, with just over two minutes remaining in the second quarter.

The Flying Dutchman was able to march back down the field in a timely matter, picking up five first downs, before running the ball in for a 2-yard touchdown to close the scoring gap heading into halftime, 27-16. From there FDU worked its way up the field eventually just outside the redzone, for Thomas to run his second rushing touchdown of the game from 26 yards out, 34-16.

After an even bigger deficit was added, Lebanon Valley felt the pressure to catch up and was about to do so as their next drive put them on the FDU 37 but was forced to turnover on downs after a 3-yard storage tackle by Aaron Smith ( Naugatuck, Conn.) and Ginika Ozurumba ( Union, NJ). With field position at their own 30-yard line, FDU-Florham completed pass after pass to ensure the Devils' sixth touchdown of the game, 41-16.

Lebanon Valley and FDU-Florham traded drives and LVC received the ball at almost midfield and slowly moved forward enough to reach field goal range to close the scoring gap.

With 5:14 remaining in the fourth quarter, FDU-Florham only had one-fourth down conversion in their total of 8-play drive and scored their final touchdown of the game, 48-26. Lebanon Valley attempted one last try but was intercepted on their final pass by Smith who was taken down at the FDU 35. Your Devils closed the game with a

With the kick in the hands of the FDU-Florham and Lebanon Valley receiving, the flying Dutchman started their first drive of the second half at their own 35-yard line but was only able to move 11 yards before having to punt the ball back to the Devils. FDU-Florham was in the perfect time frame to take multiple kneel-downs and run the clock for the 48-26 Homecoming victory.

FDU-Florham and the rest of the Middle Atlantic Conference will take a bye week of rest before traveling to Alvernia on Saturday, October 12 for a 12:00pm kick-off.
