Madison, NJ (September 17) – The FDU-Florham Volleyball Team (6-5, 0-0 MAC Freedom) was seen on Tuesday night defending Roger Kindel Court in non-conference action against the St. Joseph's- Brooklyn Bears (6-2, 2-0 Skyline). Your Devils emerged victorious after dropping the first set, but coming back to win the 3-1 match.
The Devils held a team effort in the win as
Genevieve Fitch ( Charleston, SC) notched 16 digs and13 kills with 3 aces, while
Amaya Ocasio ( Secaucus, NJ) set the ball for 17 assists and defended for 2 blocks.
Mackenzie Crandall ( Shrewbury, Mass.) was also on the offensive attack as she recorded 12 kills.
Set 1: FDU-Florham was out to a cold start as their fire wasn't ignited until St. Joseph's four straight points, 4-1. The Devils answered with an 8-3 point run but didn't take long for the Bears to catch up and tie the score a 10-10. St. Joseph's found a rhythm to almost close the set at 23-17. However, with
Hannah Weinmann (Monroe Township., NJ) behind the line to serve, the Devils tied the set at 23 a piece. Unfortunately, the Devils were handed a 25-23 loss after a kill and attack error.
Set 2: The Devils started the second set with a fiery attack as they claimed the first four points after starting with a service ace and two kills. FDU-Florham found themselves ahead for most of the set but saw a 20-20 tie after a Bears kill. The score balanced one side to the other, but after giving the Devils the final serve and a kill from
Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) the set was concluded at a 25-22 score in favor of FDU-Florham.
Set 3: With each team having a set to their own, the game was on to claim the third set. With neither team wanting to fall behind, the score was tied six times before the Devils were able to capitalize on the opportunity after a 14-14 score, just before St. Joseph's was able to reach them at a 25-21 set final.
Set 4: FDU-Florham did not let the fire die heading into its fourth set, as they allowed St. Jospeh's to take the first point, but scored five straight points before trading points with the Bears. It was not until the score read 11-8 that FDU-Florham turned on the heat full blast with seven straight points. St. Joseph's was only allowed five points in set, before FDU closed out the set with a 25-14 score, and a 3-1 overall match win.
FDU-Florham will remain home for their next match on Thursday, September 19 when they host Sarah Lawrence for 7:00pm non-conference action.
