Men's Tennis Claims Two Titles in King's Invitational

| Box Score 2 Wilkes-Barre, Pa (September 14 & 15)- The FDU-Florham Men's Tennis team opened their 2024 season at the King's College Invitational this past weekend and saw much success on the courts as three Devils players claimed their bracket titles.
 
In the single portion of the invitational, Matthew Emery (Howell, NJ) was seen playing against Joshua Neidert of Lycoming in the Singles #1 bracket and was able to secure the quarter-final round by a 6-0, 6-0 score before falling to Stefanos Bills of Elizabeth town in the semifinals by a score of 6-2, 6-1. Representing in Singles #2 was Ronald Duval (Old Bridge, NJ) as he faced Sebastian Sylvester of Wilkes and lost by a 6-3, 6-0 score.
 
Singles #3 held part of the success of the Devils this weekend, as Kevin Liwag (Marlboro, NJ) was put against Jayden Manbeck from Purchase College and won the quarterfinals by a 6-1, 6-3 score. He then faced Cole Riely of Wilkes and advanced to the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-4 score. The Junior was put to work to earn his invitational title as the score book read 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 against Lev Uitterhoeve of Manhattanville and ultimately fell in his favor as he claimed the Singles #3 title.
 
In the remaining rounds of the singles tournament, Nicholas Weglinski was seen in the Singles #4 bracket as he faced Stanley Shimko of King's and won by a 6-1, 6-1 score. He then faced Ryan Kraychick of Elizabeth Town and was victorious with a 6-2, 6-3 score. Weglinski was unfortunately stopped in the finals round by Conor Frey of Wilkes, as he lost by scores of 2-6, 7-6 (8-6), and 10-8.
 
Rounding out the singles portion was Chase Miller as he partook in Singles #5 against Purchase's Seth Priestman. Miller defeated his opponent in the quarterfinal by scores of 6-2, 6-3 but was stopped by Kayvan Shams of Lycoming with a 6-4, 6-4 score.


FDU-Florham only has two sets of Doubles participating in the invitational as it was Emery and Duval in Double #1 and Liwag and Weglinski in Doubles #2. The other portion of success from the weekend was found with Emery and Duval as they started their bracket with an 8-1 win over Alexander Norris and John Finnegan of Purchase. The semifinal round was held to be almost identical as the pair defeated Griffin Forbeg and Derwin Guzman of Manhattanville with an 8-2 score. Sebastian Sylvester and Otarhe Okoh of Wilkes faced the Devils in the final round and handed Emery and Duval the #Doubles 1 invitational title with a 8-3 score.
 
The final match that took place for the Men's Tennis team this weekend occurred in Double #2 when Liwag and Weglinski took on Nathanial Rathe and Cole Riley of Wilkes but fell to the pair by a 8-6 score.
 
FDU-Florham will return to the courts on Saturday, September 28 when they visit Moravian for a 12:00pm non-conference match.
