Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Tops Ramapo 1-0

Madison, NJ (August 30) – The FDU-Florham women's soccer team defeated Ramapo 1-0 in non-conference action on Friday night in their first match of the season, with Ashley Dietrich (Middletown, NJ) scoring the lone goal of the game.

Records: FDU (1-0-0); Ramapo (0-1-0)
Location: Athletic Center Turf (Mahwah, NJ)
FDU Goal Scorers: Ashley Dietrich (1)

The match started with the Devils taking shots at the Ramapo goalkeeper, putting three corner kicks and five shots towards the net while Ramapo could only come up with one shot. All of that pressure finally paid off at 29:45, when Ashleigh Frankel (Branchburg, NJ) found Ashley Dietrich near the middle of the pitch. Dietrich then launched the ball for about 30 yards over the goalkeeper's head and into the net to give both her and the Devils their first goal of the season and to give FDU the 1-0 lead. This lead held into half-time, as both sides could not put up another goal in the first half.

In the second half, both teams took shots at the goalkeepers, but neither could put the ball past them. At 76:33, Ava Gianni (North Brunswick, NJ) received a red card, meaning she was ejected from the game. That left the Devils to rely on their backup goalkeeper Talia Scheffer (Smithtown, NY) to finish out the game to secure the Devils the win, and she did just that, achieving two saves in the final minute of the game to lead the Devils to a 1-0 win.

Gianni still did her part, as she racked up five saves in net to keep the Roadrunners off the score sheet, while Scheffler achieved two of her own.
The Devils edged out Ramapo on shots (13-12) while earning the same amount of shots on goal (7-7). FDU dominated at corner kicks (7-1) while the fouls were more even (3-5).

The Devils will play their home opener against Kean on September 4th at 4:00 pm.
