Madison, NJ (April 6) – The FDU-Florham Softball team (9-12, 1-5 MAC Freedom) not only hosted the Desales University Bulldogs (16-6, 5-3 MAC Freedom) for a MAC Freedom doubleheader, but they honored their five seniors before the seeing a 10-0 loss in game one and a 9-5 loss in game two.
Game 1:
The scoreboard was lit up early as Desales was able to bring in six runs in the first inning, on six hits. The Bulldogs were then able to add three runs in the third inning to bring the score to a 9-0 total.
In the fourth inning, FDU-Florham saw their lone hit of the game come off the bat of sophomore
Abigail Rodriguez (Woodbridge, NJ) as she found a spot in left-center field for a single.
DeSales in the fifth inning brought in their final run of the game with a RBI single to left field. The Bulldogs scored 10 runs before the start of the sixth inning, resulting in a 10-0 mercy rule over the Devils.
FDU-Florham saw
Victoria Fantozzi (Hillsborough, NJ) (3-4) in the circle for one out as she was given the loss after facing ten batters. Rachel Lowery (8-3) pitched in game one for the DeSales and recorded four strikeouts while facing seventeen batters.
Game 2:
DeSales was the first to step on home plate in game two as they brought in two runs in the first inning. FDU-Florham saw their first run of the day with RBI single through the left side from
Kacie Centineo (Waldwick, NJ).
The Bulldogs found momentum in the third inning when they added four runs to extend the score to 6-1. The Devils decided to answer with four runs of their own including an RBI home run to left field from
Jada Lambright (Clifton Park, NY) to close the score within one, 6-5.
FDU-Florham kept close for the remainder of the game but DeSales secured the game-two win with a two-run homer to left field upping the score to a four-run differential, allowing the Bulldogs to return home with a 9-5 win over the Devils.
The Devils saw
Kelly Cornog (Newtown Square, PA) (6-7) in the circle for the entirety of game two. She was given the loss but not before throwing two strikeouts, while facing 40 batters. DeSales saw Tabitha Lawless (3-1) record the win for the Bulldogs, she faced eleven batters and threw two strikeouts.
FDU-Florham will remain on the road for its next two games, as they will first travel to Wilkes-Barre, PA for a MAC Freedom doubleheader on Wednesday, April 10 against King's College Monarchs. The first pitches are set for 3pm and 5pm.
