Softball Pulls Out 11-10 Win Over King's in Game One of MAC Freedom Doubleheader

Wilkes-Barre, PA (April 10) – The FDU-Florham Softball team (10-12, 2-5 MAC Freedom) traveled to the King's Monarchs (10-13, 1-6 MAC Freedom) for a MAC Freedom doubleheader and pulled out an 11-10 win in game one, but halted game two in the fourth inning due to a lack of daylight.

Game 1:

It was King's who put up the first run of the game with a single up the middle to bring in the runner on third. FDU-Florham was able to collect three outs to hold any more runs for the Monarchs in the first inning.

FDU-Florham introduced the bat to the ball in the second inning starting with an RBI double to right center field from Abigail Rodriguez (Woodbridge, NJ). Helping the Devils take a 3-1 lead at the end of the second inning with another 2 RBI double to right field, this time of the bat of Riley Signor (Media, PA).

In the bottom of the second inning, King's was able to retake the lead with just two hits but added four runs to have the scoreboard read 5-3.

The third inning for the Devils held only two hits but scored four runs as Rodriguez collected another three RBI for the lead and a 6-5 score. Sophomore Victoria Fantozzi (Hillsborough, NJ) found the ball a spot in left field for an RBI of her own and upped the scoring differential by two runs.

With a RBI single to third base and another single up the middle, the Monarchs tied the score at 7-7 heading into the fourth inning. King's capitalized on the offensive end again in the bottom of the fourth inning by extending the score to a three-run difference, 10-7.

FDU-Florham let the first burn with their offensive chance in the fifth inning as it started with Fantozzi adding another RBI. Signor was able to follow behind with an RBI double to right-center field and Kristen Tigar (Hazlet, NJ) tied the score once again with a sacrifice fly to center field for the RBI.

The defense held on both sides of the field for either team until Bianca DiSanto (Colonia, NJ) sent the ball to center field for an RBI double and what would be the winning run. The Devils' defense held till the seventh inning for the 11-10 win over King's and their first win over the Monarch since 2019.

In the circle for the Monarchs was Madisyn vonFrisch (2-1) as she recorded the loss for King's but was able to record two strikeouts while facing ten batters.

With a strong defensive showing in the top of the first inning, King's was able to put up the first run of the game off a sacrifice fly to center field for the RBI.

FDU-Florham built up their momentum for the second inning as their first run was scored off a fielding error on the second baseman. The ball was then sent up the middle to the center fielder to bring in the Devils' second and third run. The final run of the inning for the Devils was scored as the attention was on the batter running to first base for the putout.
