Galloway, N.J. (April 23) – Though it was a tight game throughout the contest, The FDU-Florham baseball team (12-23) was outdueled on the road at Stockton, 6-4 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.
Jake Hendershot (Martinsville, N.J.) led the way offensively when he went 3-for-4 on his at bats with a double and stole a base.
Aaron Santos (Bridgewater, N.J.) was the only other Devil today with multiple hits when he collected two.
The Ospreys struck first in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single through the right side. The Devils were able to strike back with the tying run in the top of the third inning. A walk put
Tyrus Chippendale (Middlesex, N.J.) on base and he advanced to third on a double down the left field line by Hendershot. A sacrifice fly by
Jack Giovenco (Allentown, Pa.) plated Chippendale to make the score, 1-1.
Stockton retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single through the left side but was immediately answered in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 2-2.
Dylan Hode (Manalapan, N.J.) walked to first and reached second when
Mark Geist (Middlesex, N.J.) reached on a fielder's choice. Hode stole third and eventually completed his trip around the bases on a ground out from Chippendale.
The Ospreys finally gained a true advantage in the contest when they scored three unanswered runs across the sixth and seventh innings to hold a 5-2 lead. They scored on a throwing error, and RBI single up the middle and a sacrifice bunt RBI.
The Devils cut into the lead with two runs at the top of the eighth inning.
Matt Aber (Basking Ridge, N.J.) led off with a single to left field and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Brody Donovan (South Plainfield, N.J.) walked and a fielder's choice on
Nick Calabrese's (Long Valley, N.J) put Aber to third. An error on Hode's at bat scored Aber and then an RBI double down the left field line scored Calabrese to cut the Stockton lead to 5-4.
The Ospreys found the insurance run they needed with an RBI single up the middle and held on defensively to secure the win.
Ben Cohen (Malibu, Calif.) got the start today and pitched four innings with two runs allowed on five hits while also notching a strikeout.
Jake Stollar (Flemington, N.J.) suffered the loss as they pitcher of record when the lead was officially lost. He pitched two innings and allowed three runs (zero earned) on four hits and struck out a batter.
FDU-Florham heads into their final MAC Freedom series of the season when they host the first game against Delaware Valley on Friday, April 26 with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 pm.
